Five More Hands from Ivey's 2019 WSOP $50K Poker Players Championship Day 3 Run

On Wednesday, 10-time gold bracelet winner Phil Ivey returned to the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as chip leader of Event #58: $50,000 Poker Players Championship. Midway through the day, we highlighted five of the biggest hands the Poker Hall of Famer had played up until Level 15.

Well, Ivey never took his foot off the gas as he finished Day 3 as the chip leader among the 12 remaining players. With action slated to resume on Thursday and the field looking to play down to the final table, we thought we’d revisit Ivey’s run with a look at five more hands from the latter half of Day 3 action.

Hand #1 – Ivey Gets Half, Monnette and Mizrachi Get a Quarter

In Level 15 (20,000/40,000), the game was Omaha Hi-Lo when John Monnette raised from under the gun, Ivey called on the button, and Robert Mizrachi called in the big blind.

Monnette bet the 9♥5♥10♦ flop, and both Ivey and Mizrachi called. Monnette bet again on the 4♦ turn, and both Ivey and Mizrachi called again.

Action checked to Ivey on the 6♠ river, and he bet. Both Mizrachi and Monnette called, and Ivey tabled A♠9♦7♦2♥ for the nut low and half the pot, while Mizrachi turned over A♣J♠10♠5♣ and Monnette tabled A♦10♣5♠4♠, and the two chopped the high with tens and fives.

That pot moved Ivey up to 2.2 million.

Hand #2 – Ivey Hunts Down Hennigan

In Level 16 (25,000/50,000), John Hennigan opened preflop from under the gun, and continuation-bet on the flop of 2♣8♦5♠. Ivey called both bets from the hijack.

Hennigan checked the 5♥ turn, and Ivey bet 60,000. Hennigan called, bringing the 6♠ river. Ivey bet 150,000, and Hennigan called, mucking when Ivey tabled 10♦10♥. With that, Ivey was up to 2.9 million.

Hand #3 – Ivey Takes the Chip Lead

Also, in Level 16 (25,000/50,000), albeit in a game of seven-card Stud, Hennigan was the aggressor on fourth and fifth street, with Ivey taking the betting lead on sixth street. Both players checked through the river, and Ivey showed down 10♥7♣6♦ to take down the pot. Hennigan, left with 80,000 chips after this hand, busted out minutes later.

Ivey became the first player to go over the three-million chip mark in the tournament.

Hand #4 – "You're Too Good!"

In Level 17 (30,000/60,000) the game was Razz when David Oppenheim brought it in with the 2♣, and Ivey completed. Lyle Berman called, as did Oppenheim. Ivey bet fourth street after action checked to him, and Berman and Oppenheim both called. Berman took the lead on fifth street, and only Ivey called. Ivey called another bet on sixth street, then bet himself after Berman checked on seventh street. Berman called.

Ivey tabled 7♠4♠3♥ for a seventy-five, and Berman said, "You're too good!" before mucking.

Ivey chipped up to 3.6 million after the hand.

Hand #5 – Ivey Check-Raises Oppenheim

Playing Stud Hi-Lo in Level 18 (40,000/80,000), Oppenheim completed and Ivey called. Ivey bet on fourth and fifth streets, with Oppenheim calling each street. Both players checked sixth street, and Ivey checked seventh street. Oppenheim bet, and Ivey check-raised. Oppenheim called, but mucked after Ivey tabled 8♠4♠3♣ for three eights.

Phil Ivey: XxXx / 6♥8♥8♣K♣ / Xx

Ivey was up to 4.9 million after that hand and would go on to finish the night with just a tad less at 4.775 million.
