WSOP Legend: Doyle Brunson's Final Bracelet, 15 Years Later

Doyle Brunson
Doyle Brunson

At the beginning of the 2005 WSOP, Doyle Brunson remained the co-king of the all-time bracelet count, tied along with Johnny Chan at nine. However, as the series drew toward its close in late June, that was no longer the case — Chan had overtaken him by winning No. 10 to stand atop the mountain alone.

Brunson was already phasing out his tournament play, having cashed precisely zero times that summer and just three times in the previous two combined, although one had resulted in a bracelet victory.

When it came time for Event #31: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, Brunson dusted off his tournament chops and made a run.

Allen "Itsfun77" Summerville Eliminated in 12th Place ($7,031.52)

With blinds at 80,000/160,000/20,000, Allen "Itsfun77" Summerville opened for 420,000 from the cutoff and Phillip "AvonB" Rhodes three-bet jammed d for 3,505046 from the small blind.

Action folded back to Summerville who called off his 1,955,124 stack and both players revealed their hands.

Phillip "AvonB" Rhodes: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Allen "Itsfun77" Summerville: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}

Summerville was racing for his tournament life but couldn't connect with the {q-Clubs}{2-Spades}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Spades} runout as his night ended in 12th place.

Brandon "Omni27" Ienn Eliminated in 13th Place ($5,500.80)

With the blinds at 80,000/160,000/20,000, "http401" raised to 320,000 from under the gun, and Brandon "Omni27" Ienn three-bet shoved for 1,548,341 from the button. Action folded back to "http401", who snap-called.

Brandon "Omni27" Ienn: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
"http401": {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

Ienn's tournament came to an end on the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop, as "http401" flopped quad aces, and Ienn had rather cruelly flopped tens-full, himself. To add insult to injury, the {10-Clubs} fell on the turn, giving Ienn worthless quad tens, and he made his exit after the {8-Hearts} fell on the river.
