"Godzilla" Stomps Kuhn's Cowboys

Robert Kuhn
Robert Kuhn

Robert "bustinballs" Kuhn opened for 230 from middle position and then called Joel "Godzilla" Frank's 700 three-bet from the cutoff.

Once the {j-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop appeared, Kuhn led out for 2,140 and then called Frank's 5,160 raise to see the {7-Diamonds} appear on the turn.

Kuhn check-called Frank's 14,429 all in bet and both players revealed their hands.

Joel "Godzilla" Frank: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Robert "bustinballs" Kuhn: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Frank flopped top two-pair and the {j-Diamonds} river secured his double-up as it gave him a full house.

WSOP History: Looking Back at the November (and October) Nines

Level 5 : 60/120, 0 ante
2014 WSOP November Nine
2014 WSOP November Nine

No stage in poker stood as a bigger goal for a tournament player than the final table of the WSOP Main Event. For years, that meant going to sleep knowing you had the chance of a lifetime, to go down in poker history in the next few days as the cameras captured your every bet, raise and fold.

All of that changed in 2008.

The year after Jerry Yang's Main Event victory was broadcast to all on ESPN's standard tape delay, organizers made a decision to try to increase the excitement and anticipation around the final table: after the final nine was reached, play would be paused. At that point, everyone left would go home with 9th-place money and the players would reconvene a few months later to play out the final table on a short tape delay.

That lasted until 2016, and this is the history of the November (and October) Nines.

Vigelette Sets Up Beyerlein for Double

Level 5 : 60/120, 0 ante

George "gvigelette" Vigelette opened for 420 from middle position and Matthew "DirtyVladBoy" Beyerlein three-bet to 1,200 next to ace.

Action on the table folded back around to Vigelette who jammed for 6,700 and Beyerlein quickly called.

George "gvigelette" Vigelette: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Matthew "DirtyVladBoy" Beyerlein: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

Vigelette was ahead with his pair of fours but the {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop gave him a sweat as Beyerlein a gutshot.

The {4-Clubs} turn was a sight of relief for Vigelette as it gave him a set and as Beyerlein needed to spike a seven to win.

The {10-Diamonds} river paired Beyerlein but it was one card too late as it secured Vigelette's double-up.

Riess Felts Trivett, Who Promptly Fires Again

Michael Trivett
Michael Trivett

Ryan "bitc0in" Riess raised to 300 from the cutoff and then called when Michael "annie_r_u_ok" Trivett three-bet jammed for 2,520 from the small blind.

Ryan "bitc0in" Riess: {q-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Michael "annie_r_u_ok" Trivett: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

Riess had the superior aces and he claimed the pot after the board ran out {2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Trivett, last year's WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood Main Event winner, opted to immediately re-enter for a fresh 20,000 starting stack.
