Mckeehen Eliminates Veliz on Money Bubble

Level 22 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Joe McKeehen
Joe McKeehen

Joe "IhateChadE" Mckeehen raised to 8,000 from early position and Israel "Izzyboii_1" Veliz defended his big blind to see a {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop appear.

Veliz quickly moved all in for 19,485 and Mckeehen snap-called.

Israel "Izzyboii_1" Veliz: {k-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Joe "IhateChadE" Mckeehen: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Veliz was ahead until the {a-Hearts} came on the turn, leaving him drawing to a king on the river.

Unfortunately for Veliz, the {3-Hearts} completed the board on the river and ended his tournament on the money bubble.

Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Just prior to hand for hand play "rtag5388" raised to 8,800 from the cutoff, James "bagelbud" Lillis three-bet from the cutoff for 21,600. Mike "Mouth123" Matusow four-bet jammed from the small blind for 71,227, "rtag5388" folded and Lillis called.

Mike "Mouth123" Matusow: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
James "bagelbud" Lillis: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Matusow would need help if he wanted to stay alive for the money. The flop was good to him as the {9-Spades}{k-Spades}{3-Spades}, pairing Lillis but giving Matusow a draw to the nut flush. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and the river came the {k-Diamonds} to miss the flush and flush Matusow out of the tournament just before the bubble.

WSOP Legend: Doyle Brunson's Final Bracelet, 15 Years Later

Level 20 : 1,400/2,800, 350 ante
WSOP Legend Doyle Brunson
WSOP Legend Doyle Brunson

At the beginning of the 2005 WSOP, Doyle Brunson remained the co-king of the all-time bracelet count, tied along with Johnny Chan at nine. However, as the series drew toward its close in late June, that was no longer the case — Chan had overtaken him by winning No. 10 to stand atop the mountain alone.

Brunson was already phasing out his tournament play, having cashed precisely zero times that summer and just three times in the previous two combined, although one had resulted in a bracelet victory.

When it came time for Event #31: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, Brunson dusted off his tournament chops and made a run.

Mark "Nostradonkus" Liedtke: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
