Don't Miss the New Feature "WSOP History: An Oral History of ChipTic"

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
ChipTic
ChipTic

At the 2012 World Series of Poker, a shiny new product received its public unveiling. Players and fans the world over were introduced to a program with revolutionary potential. It could track the chip ebbs and flows of every player in a tournament while also serving as the back end operating system to run said tournament. It promised the ability to change the way poker tournaments were followed, with players and fans interacting at the stroke of a few keys.

That product was ChipTic. And it proved to be a colossal failure.

This is the two-part oral history of ChipTic, from those who experienced it first-hand and witnessed that failure — three former employees, two members of WSOP staff, and two poker media members who watched it implode.

Sylvia Forced to Rebuy

Level 10 : 400/800, 0 ante

"FridayB" raised to 2,400 from the button, Jesse "mrjessejames" Sylvia three-bet from the small blind to 8,000 and was called.

The flop came the {3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Sylvia bet 16,800, "FridayB" raised to put Sylvia's remaining 181 in the pot.

Sylvia had the {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} vs the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} of "FridayB".

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and the river the {a-Spades} to bust Sylvia as he bought back in.

Kerstetter Comes Up Short

Level 10 : 400/800, 0 ante
Jamie Kerstetter
Jamie Kerstetter

Action folded to "badbeatball" who raised from the small blind and Jamie "DanBilzerian" Kerstetter three-bet from the big blind.

"badbeatball" called and the {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop appeared. "badbeatball" check-called Kerstetter's all in bet of 75.

"badbeatball": {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Jamie "DanBilzerian" Kerstetter: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

Each player paired their ace while giving them a broadway draw and the {5-Hearts} turn brought lo hand possibilities.

Kerstetter needed some help wanting either an eight or four for the hi hand but instead the {a-Clubs} appeared on river gave both players trip aces but she was out-kicked by "badbeatball" and eliminated from the tournament.

Turner Waxed by Donabedian

Action on the table folded around to Justin "MadTitan" Turner who limped in from the small blind and Andrew "PintoPedro" Donabedian raised from the big blind.

Turner then tossed out a 5,400 three-bet and Donabedian called bringing about the {2-Spades}{7-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop. Turner quickly jammed for 5,312, Donabedian called and the two hands were revealed.

Justin "MadTitan" Turner: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Andrew "PintoPedro" Donabedian: {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}

The {9-Diamonds} turn didn't change a thing, giving both players a chance to win the pot and it was Donabedian who connected with the {3-Hearts} river to win the pot while Turner was eliminated from the tournament.
