Wien Sniffs Out the Bluff For Huge Double

Level 12 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Jeremy Wien
Jeremy Wien

With 18,000 in the middle on the {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop, Jeremy Wien bet 7,100 and was called by a big stack on the button.

The turn brought the {4-Spades}, Wien continued for another 12,500 and the button called.

On the river {a-Hearts}, Wien put out another 16,500 before his opponent cut out a stack large enough to put Wien all in.

Wien looked tortured by the decision as he thought it over, but he eventually settled on a call. The button turned over {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} nine-high and Wien turned over his winning {a-Spades}{q-Spades} pair of aces in relief as he dragged a big pot.

Noam Muallem flagged down PokerNews before immediately calling off his remaining 11,500 on the {10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop.

"I'm all-in," said Muallem. "I've got the straight."

Noam Muallem: {k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Muallem was ahead but he needed to dodge a lot of outs.

"Black cards," said Muallem as the turn {a-Hearts} hit the board.

Ball Looks to Keep Things Rolling in 2022

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Scott Ball
Scott Ball

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Scott Ball is in the house. Not only did Ball take home two gold bracelets last year in the Little One for One Drop and the No-Limit Hold'em $5,000 6-max, but he also won the WSOP’s new No-Limits VELO Leaderboard Championship for best no-limit hold'em player of the year.

Ball picked up an early pot when he and an opponent both put in 3,300 preflop to see the {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Spades} spread. Ball bet 4,000 and that was enough to take down the pot.

Moon Reads Through the Table Talk

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Benjamin Moon
Benjamin Moon

An early position player limped in, Ben Moon called from the small blind and the big checked his option.

Moon checked on the flop {k-Spades}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts} and the big blind bet 500. The early position limper called, and Moon raised it up to 2,500. Both players called.

The turn brought the {3-Hearts} and Moon continued for 6,000. Both players called again the {5-Hearts} hit the river.

Both Moon and the big blind checked, and the early position player moved all-in for 8,000.

"So you both were on spade draws," said the all-in player.

Moon made the call and revealed his {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} pair of kings, which was enough to eliminate his opponent who actually held the missed spade draw himself with {8-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Event #11: $600 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack Begins at 11:00 AM

Zhi Wu
Zhi Wu

The 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas kicks off today at 11 a.m. PDT. with Event #11: $600 No-Limit Hold'em.

The 2021 version of this event attracted an unbelievable 4,527 entrants to create a $2,309,280 prize pool. Emerging as the winner was Zhi Wu of Boston, Massachusetts, who won $281,604 and the gold bracelet for the victory, which was Wu’s first-career WSOP cash.

680 players were paid for their efforts, though just 216 players bagged chips in order to play Day 2.

It’s worth remembering that 6,150 players competed in the 2019 version of the tournament. If the beginning of the 2022 WSOP is any indication, the field could reach 7,000 runners or more.

What to Expect

The players will start off with a massive stack equal to 300 big blinds, with 22 30-minute levels scheduled for Day 1 and 20-minute breaks slotted in after every four levels. The players will be given a 75-minute dinner break at the end of level 15.

The event will allow players to rebuy just once, and the field will begin with 30,000 chips with late registration open until level 12.

The remaining players will come back at noon on Tuesday and play down to a winner. Each level will remain at 30 minutes but this time the players will only have a 15-minute breaks every four levels, with a hour-long dinner break at level 34.

Action kicks off at 11 a.m. local time in the Paris Ballroom and the PokerNews live reporting team will have all the action from this and every event from the WSOP’s new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
