Day 1 of Event #16: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em at the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas saw 1,080 players buy into the event and create a $2,469,750 prize pool, a figure that should rise thanks to late registration remaining open for two more levels. Only 407 of those starters bagged up chips when the curtain came down on the day's proceedings.

David Tovmasyan claimed the overnight chip lead; he carries over a stack of 325,500 chips. Tovmasyan’s biggest WSOP cash to date came in 2015 for slightly over $45,000. Should he continue in this form, Tovmasyan will blow that prize out of the water.

A number of noted players also made the cut as Day 1 finished up. Faraz Jaka bagged 184,600 moving into Day 2 . He joins fellow Day 2 players Maria Ho (76,500), Heidi May (40,500), Kathy Liebert (97,000), Niall Farrell (81,500).

Sadly, it was the end of the road for the likes of Jake Daniels, Eddy Sabat, Matt Berkey, Nacho Barbero, Chris Brewer, and British grinder Scott Margereson.

Day 2 of this exciting event shuffles up and deals at 12:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, June 9th. Late registration remains open for the first two one-hour levels before slamming shut and starting the march towards the money places; official payouts will be published once the final attendance is confirmed.

Players return to Level 11 where the blinds are 1,000/2,000 with a big blind ante of 2,000. Ho Holds With Aces

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Maria Ho
Maria Ho

Action was picked up moments before the dealer cleared the board of {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades} when Maria Ho had most of her chips in the middle, heads up with a player in the small blind.

Ho turned over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} for two pair, and her opponent reluctantly dropped his cards face down in the muck.

"Ahhh... you got it," he said, tapping the table.

Ho smiled, and turned to her table mate Dietrich Fast to share one of the last conversations of Day 1. They both counted their chips before dealers began to exchange the smaller chips before bagging for the night.

Fisher In Three Way All In

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Paul Fisher
Paul Fisher

Paul Fisher was last to act on the button, facing two players all in from the big blind and middle position.

The player in middle position barely had everyone covered, and Fisher committed the rest of his stack to create a 82,000 pot.

Paul Fisher: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Middle Position: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Big Blind: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The flop was {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} giving Fisher and the big blind top pair, and middle position was holding middle pair but would need more than just another nine to help his chances.

The turn was the {k-Hearts}, making the nut flush for Fisher. It would be an inconsequential {4-Clubs} on the river to send the large pot Fisher's way.

Kornuth All In

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

The five cards on the felt were {q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and the big blind checked it to Chance Kornuth in the cutoff.

Kornuth pushed the remainder of his 19,000 stack in the middle, and his opponent took a few moments to consider.

With a pot of about 50,000, Kornuth showed nothing but a faint smile and that grin grew even bigger when the big blind finally called.

Kornuth casually turned over {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for the full house, and his opponent tapped the table before mucking and doubling up the two-time bracelet winner.

Mizrachi Making Moves

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

There was around 30,000 in the middle, and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi was in late position, heads up with a player under the gun.

Action was picked up on a board of {3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades}, and Mizrachi over-bet the pot to 80,000 when his opponent checked the river.

After a few moments, the under-the-gun player reluctantly folded his hand. Mizrachi turned over just the {a-Hearts}. "This is the new Grinder", said Mizrachi, "See? I had the ace of hearts."

Mizrachi continued to smile as he stacked his chips.

Farrell Is a Ladies Man

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Niall Farrell
Niall Farrell

Action was picked up after the preflop betting had completed, but it was explained that Niall Farrell had three-bet an early position raise, been four bet from the small blind, and the button under-shoved for around 14,000. Farrell still had the option to raise himself, so he went all in from the hijack, and the small blind called.

Button: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Small blind: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Niall Farrell: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Farrell had both players covered so wasn't at risk, however he was behind and needed help.

A runout of {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Spades}{q-Diamonds} saw him hit though, and he declared, "I felt I was going to win that one." Farrell scored the double knockout and a meaty pot.

Another player at the table claimed to have folded the case queen.

Berkey Calls Russler's All In

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Matt Berkey
Matt Berkey

There was about 36,000 in the middle on a completed board of {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}, and Matt Berkey checked from the small blind to Nathan Russler on the button.

On the double paired board with a possible flush, Russler bet 40,000, enough to put Matt Berkey all in.

Berkey thought about it for a few moments, clicking his chips together in both hands. When he threw one of them in for the call, Russler tabled {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a full house.

Berkey mucked his hand, and wished the rest of the table good luck before exiting.

Kade Calls King-High Bluff

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Vanessa Kade
Vanessa Kade

There was 6,700 in the pot when {3-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} was showing on the felt, and Vanessa Kade in the small blind checked it to the player to her left in the big blind. Her opponent took a free card, and they went heads up to the river.

On the {q-Clubs} river, Kade checked again, and the big blind bet 4,000.

Kade thought for a moment, and flicked in a chip to call.

Her opponent declared, "King-high".

Kade turned over {a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for almost bottom pair, but it was good at showdown, and she raked the pot.

Farrell Grabs Cape On Break

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Niall Farrell
Niall Farrell

Action was picked up on a flop of {5-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, with Niall Farrell heads-up from early position against a middle position player.

Farrell checked the flop, and his opponent bet out 2,700. Farrell smooth called.

The turn came {8-Spades} and was checked through.

The river fell {6-Hearts} and Farrell lead for 1,700. His opponent took his time, before slowly reaching for raising chips. They made it 5,500. Farrell sighed and went into the tank.

"I don't know how to play this game anymore," he declared, looking at his cards again.

It took around a full minute, but eventually Farrell took his bet back and called.

"You're good if you have a pair", said his opponent.

Farrell tabled {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for third pair and a missed straight draw. His opponent showed Farrell his hand before quickly throwing them straight into the muck pile.

Farrell confirmed after the hand that the player had shown him {a-Spades}{4-Spades}.

Seif Doubles Early

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante
Mark Seif
Mark Seif

Mark Seif was sharing a table with Lara Eisenberg and Kathy Liebert, when he got involved in a big hand in the opening hour of the tournament.

In middle position Self raised 3,600, after a player in the big blind bet 600. From the cutoff another player raised to 8,600, and after it folded around back to Seif, he called.

The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, and both players checked to see the turn {3-Clubs}, which Seif bet 7,700. The player to his left called and they went to the river heads up.

The river was the {8-Clubs}, and Seif went all in for 20,000. His opponent in the cutoff thought for a full minute before making the call, and Seif tabled {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for a flopped set.

The player in the cutoff turned over {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}, and Seif scooped the pot for an early double up.
