Dirksen, Marin Tangle as Chip Leader Steps Aside

Level 12 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

2-7 Triple Draw

Day 1 chip leader James Opie raised from under the gun and got calls from Roberto Marin, Peter Dirksen, and Cary Katz.

Dirksen and Opie drew two, Katz took three, while Marin took only one. Marin opened the betting and Katz and Dirksen called, while Opie folded.

Marin bet again after drawing one and only Dirksen stuck around to the third draw. "Nuts," Marin announced as he drew one.

Dirksen also drew one and led out with a bet. "I don't think you have the nuts," he countered.

Marin, indeed, did not have the nuts as he folded after some consideration.

Negreanu Undeterred by 3-Bet

Level 12 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

A-5 Triple Draw

Daniel Negreanu raised from under the gun, then called when Ian Chan three-bet from the big blind.

After a bet and a call on the first draw, Negreanu stood pat and bet out after the second. Chan called and took one, while Negreanu stood pat again.

Chan checked over to Negreanu, who continued with another bet. Chan gave it some thought but decided to give up the pot.

Badugi

Frank Kassela re-raised before the draw and both Daniel Strelitz and Shaun Deeb came along.

Kassela stood pat and both opponents called. Only Strelitz called after the second draw, taking one while Kassela again stood pat.

The 2010 Player of the Year patted again on the final draw and Strelitz took one more. Kassela slowed down and checked, then called when Strelitz bet.

"Six," Strelitz announced, turning over {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

"Wow," Kasslea said, flashing an eight Badugi before mucking.

"Wow. Sick four-outer there," he repeated after the hand was over, still shaking his head over Strelitz's fortunate draw.

A-5 Triple Draw

Big stack Dylan Smith opened the pot with a raise from the button. From the small blind, Joshua Faris pointed up to the ceiling to signal he was raising. Smith then four-bet and Faris called.

Smith stood pat on the first two draws, with Faris taking two each time. Faris called after the first draw.

When Smith bet again on the second draw, Faris again pointed up. "Going higher," he said.

Smith took one last look back at his cards before mucking.

At the same table, Bariscan Betil has built a chip lead-contending stack.

Glaser Can't Sneak One Past Negreanu

Level 13 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Badugi

Benny Glaser called a bet from the blinds against Daniel Negreanu on the second draw as both players took one.

Glaser, first to act, put out a bet. Negreanu paused for a moment before announcing a call.

Glaser gave a frown upon hearing Negreanu call and could only turn over a three-card Badugi. Negreanu had {10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}{a-Clubs} to take the pot.
