Negreanu Put to the Test

Level 15 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Chance Kornuth raised from under the gun to 120,000. Daniel Negreanu, who had been slowly slipping down the chip count since the start of day 2, called from middle position. The remaining players got out of the way to send Negreanu and Kornuth heads up to the flop.

On a flop of {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{a-Clubs} Kornuth continued for 125,000. Negreanu flatted.

The {7-Hearts} turn saw Kornuth lead out again, this time for a chunkier 430,000. It was not enough to shed Negreanu who called once more.

The board paired on the {7-Clubs} river. Kornuth announced all in to send Negreanu into the tank. After burning through at least one time extension, Negreanu laid down his hand to send a healthy pot Kornuth's way.

Kornuth Surprises Negreanu on the River

Level 14 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Chance Kornuth raised to 100,000 on the button and was called by Daniel Negreanu in the small blind. David peters folded his big blind.

The flop came {4-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Spades} and both players checked.

The turn brought the {j-Diamonds}, and again both players checked.

On the {q-Spades} river, Negreanu led for 200,000, but then Kornuth took his time and announced a raise to 630,000.

After some deliberation, Negreanu folded, later telling Kornuth he wasn't expecting him to raise.

Ali Imsirovic
Ali Imsirovic

On a board of {6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} Sergio Aido was all in and at risk against Ali Imsirovic, who held {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} for the overpair to the board. Aido could not beat it and was forced to exit just a few spots shy of getting paid. Meanwhile Imsirovic moves closer to the 3,000,000 chip mark.

Kornuth Doubles Through Young

Level 14 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

After Justin Young opened for 100,000 in the hijack and Phil Ivey called on the button, Chance Kornuth raised to 1,800,000 in the small blind, leaving himself just over 200,000 behind. Young called and Ivey folded.

Chance Kornuth: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Justin Young: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Kornuth's queens were well ahead and remained so through the {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop which gave Kornuth extra outs in the form of a gutshot straight draw.

The {4-Diamonds} turn changed nothing, but the {8-Spades} on the river gave Kornuth his straight, taking a huge chunk out of Young's stack.

Klein Falls to an Unfortunate River

Level 13 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Bill Klein
Bill Klein

With the flop reading {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} David Peters checked from the small blind to Bill Klein, who led out. Peters opted to check raise and, after some consideration, Klein called.

The {10-Spades} hit the turn and Peters checked. Klein decided to fire off a bet of just over 400,000 and Peters promptly moved all in. Klein called to put his tournament life on the line.

Bill Klein: {10-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
David Peters: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

Klein was ahead and in a good spot to double up, needing to fade hearts and queens. Unfortunately for him the river was the {q-Spades} giving Peters broadway and sending Klein home short of the money.
