Ghiai Busts Kings to Double Up

After a raise to 300 from middle position, the hijack put in a reraise to 900. The cutoff quickly put in the four-bet to 3,300. Shawn Ghiai made the call from the big blind and the rest of the table got out of the way.

On the flop, the cutoff continued for 6,000. Ghiai quickly moved all in with the effective stack of 13,900. His opponent made the snap-call.

Ghiai was behind, as his opponent had flopped top set, but he had outs with his open-ended straight draw. He hit one of those outs, as the turn gave him the Broadway straight, and left his opponent drawing thin to a full house or quads. Neither of those came to fruition, as the board bricked out with the on the river.

Ghiai's straight was good enough to bust his opponents set of kings, earning him the double up, and giving him one of the larger stacks in the room here in the early stages of Day 1.

Van Marter's Shove gets Opponent to Fold Kings

Action was picked up with four players having paid to see the flop. Ryan Van Marter fired for 5,200 from the small blind. After a pair of folds, the button made the call, giving heads-up action to the turn.

On the turn, Van Marter quickly moved all in, and got the snap-fold from his opponent, who turned over as he tossed his cards into the muck, clearly frustrated at having to fold such a strong hand. Van Marter turned over his cards as well, revealing the set with , showing his opponent he had, in fact, made the correct decision.

Byrd's Fourth Barrel Takes it Down

After a limp from under the gun, Bryson Byrd raised to 500 from the cutoff. He got called by the button, small blind, and the under-the-gun player.

The four-way action checked back to Byrd on the flop. Byrd sized up and fired a bet of 900. The button and under-the-gun players called, while the small blind got out of the way.

On the turn, Byrd continued, now for 2,200. The button was the only player to make the call.

On the river, Byrd fired an overbet of 12,000, nearly half of a starting stack. The button thought for a minute or two, before folding and Byrd scooped the big pot.

Welcome to Day 1a of the 2022 WSOP Event #37: $1,500 Millionaire Maker No-Limit Hold'em

The 2022 World Series of Poker in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas will kick off its annual millionaire-maker event, Event #37: $1,500 Millionaire Maker No-Limit Hold'em this morning at 10 a.m. local time.

Last year's event attracted a field of 5,330 entrants, who generated a prize pool of $3,428,280. The winner of this event is guaranteed a cash of at least $1,000,000.

Last year, it was Daniel Lazrus who took home $1,000,000 and the WSOP bracelet, his second of that year. Lazrus defeated Darryl Ronconi in heads-up play to take home the hardware.

Today is the first of two starting flights, with Day 1b slated to begin at 10 a.m. local time tomorrow. Day 1a will consist of 11 levels of play, each lasting 60 minutes. A 20-minute break is scheduled after every second level, with a 75-minute break after Level 8, expected to be around 7:00 p.m. local time.

After the dinner break, late registration will close. Players may reenter once per flight and will start with 25,000 chips. Level 1 blinds start at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante.
