Cates Loses a Bunch; Gets Some Back

Level 20 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Dan Cates from an early position and was called by Naoya Kihara on the button and Johannes Becker in the big blind. The {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop was checked to Kihara, who bet and received two calls. On the {k-Diamonds} turn all three players checked and Becker bet the {6-Hearts} river.

Cates quickly called while Kihara did do reluctantly. Becker exposed his {9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for the second nut low and a pair of fours first, to which Cates revealed the {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for the top pair. Once Kihara saw the other cards, he turned over his {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} to win the high pot as a bewildered Cates wondered what had just happened.

Yuri Dzivielevski then raised out of the small blind soon after to get called by Cates in the big blind. The Brazilian bet the {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop and called a raise, then check-called the {k-Diamonds} turn when Cates bet. On the {9-Clubs} river, Dzivielevski checked once more and reluctantly folded when Cates bet.
