Day 2 Completed

When the elimination of Phil Hellmuth only scrapes into the top stories of Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, you know it was an action-packed day.

Today saw the largest PPC field since 2013 generate a prize pool of over $5.3 million, with $1,449,103 awaiting the winner. Only 41 players survived to Day 3 with just 17 players guaranteed a min-cash of $83,738.

Bryn Kenney moved atop the chip counts midway through the day, and never looked like falling too far from the peak ahead of bagging 2,064,000. He leads Michael Moncek (1,702,000), 2021 WSOP Main Event champion Koray Aldemir (1,427,000) and Brazilian Yuri Dzivielevski (1,405,000).

Day 2 Recap

A field of 81 players returned for the start of day, and would swell as players drifted in over the additional four levels of late registration on Day 2. Stephen Chidwick, Ap Garza, Brian Yoon, John Monnette, Craig Chait and Dylan Linde were all among the players who hopped in today.

Overnight chip leader Luke Schwartz continued his ascent, but it was three-time PPC champion Michael Mizrachi who was the first player over the million-chip mark after eliminating Randy Ohel with kings against Ohel's aces.

He was soon joined by Bryn Kenney, Daniel Weinman and David Williams in seven-figure stack territory, the latter of which doing so in "ugly" fashion after eliminating Yuval Bronshtein.

Then there was the arrival of Hellmuth. In two hands of seven card stud he became short, and inside of 90 minutes he was gone; busting at the hands of Benny Glaser and Dave Rogers in a hand of Omaha Hi-Lo. His time in the PPC was short but not especially tweet, exchanging barbed comments with Adam Friedman.

More players soon chipped up over a million as the field continued to shrink, but it was Bryn Kenney who never wavered during the latter stages to be the only play over two million chips with 41 players returning for Day 3.

The tournament resumes at 2 p.m. local time for six more 100-minute levels on Tuesday, June 28. Stay tuned to the PokerNews live updates for continued coverage of the Poker Players Championship.

Ali Eslami: {x-}{x-} / {8-Hearts}{a-Spades}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs} / {x-}
Daniel Negreanu: {x-}{x-} / {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}folded on fourth street

Naoya Kihara completed and was called by Jean-Robert Bellande, Ali Eslami and Daniel Negreanu. Kihara bet on fourth street and all but Negreanu called.

The three remaining players checked fifth and sixth street and Kihara bet on seventh street. Bellande called and Eslami raised. Kihara tank-folded and Bellande called.

"Sevens full," said Eslami tabling {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}

"Where were the bets on fifth and sixth?" asked a stunned Bellande.

"You mean when [Kihara] had trip sixes?" replied Eslami.

Aldemir Chips Up Against Sternheimer

Level 12 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Omaha Hi-Lo

Picking up the action on the {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} turn, Koray Aldemir in the big blind bet and Philip Sternheimer called on the button. Aldemir bet again the {5-Diamonds} river and Sternheimer instantly tossed in a single chip for the call.

Aldemir announced a full house and revealed {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to which Sternheimer slammed his {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{j-Spades} on the table with a lot of frustration.

Noori Avoids Lamb Chop

Level 12 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Omaha Hi-Lo

Most of the chips of table short stack Ben Lamb were already in the middle prior to the {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop and he was then all-in for 85,000 total in order to get snap-called by Mike Noori.

Ben Lamb: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Mike Noori: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}

Things were looking very dire for Lamb but he gained some equity for a potential chop on the {6-Spades} turn, asking for a five. Instead, the {10-Clubs} fell on the river and Lamb was eliminated just before the final four hands for the night were announced.

Hastings and Linde No More

Level 12 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Brian Hastings pushed all-in with a short stack and was called by Jean-Robert Bellande for the former to discard one and Bellande to pat. Hastings ended up with a {q-}{9-}{8-}{7-}{3-} and that was no good, as Bellande's {10-}{9-}{6-}{5-}{4-} prevailed.

Moments later, a "brutal day" for Dylan Linde came to an end when he four-bet jammed in a NLHE hand with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} into a pair of eights versus David "ODB" Baker. The door card was an eight and despite some miracle outs to broadway, the escape never happened and that spelled the end for Linde as well.

Eslami Straightens Out Two Opponents

Level 12 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Limit Hold'em

Ali Eslami raised and Taylor Paur called. Brian Hastings raised from the big blind and both players called.

The flop was {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Paur checked. Hastings bet and got two calls. The turn {j-Spades} was checked around and the river was the {7-Clubs}. It checked to Eslami who bet and got two calls.

Eslami tabled {10-Spades}{8-Spades} for a jack-high straight and both opponents folded.

Weinman Gets a Repot Through

Level 12 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

Joshua Ladines was eliminated in a PLO hand against Bryce Yockey and another hand of the same variant was ongoing over on table 143.

Daniel Weinman had raised to 18,000 and Nicholas Julia called on the button. Brandon Cantu reraised the pot to 88,000 in the small blind. Weinman went into the tank before potting to 292,000 and that resulted in two instant folds.
