Another tournament gets underway today at the 2022 World Series of Poker, with Day 1 of Event #63 $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship kicking off at 3 p.m. local time inside Bally's and Paris, Las Vegas.

This is only the fifth instalment of this event, having been won previously by Josh Arieh, Nick Schulman, Phil Galfond and Bryce Yockey, all of whom are expected to be in attendance this time around.

Along with the aforementioned names, a star-studded field is expected with the likes of Erik Seidel, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey hopping into the mix at some point.

WSOP Player of the Year contender Daniel Zack won the fixed-limit version of this event at the beginning of the series. He beat Dustin Dirksen after a marathon session of heads-up play to claim his first 2022 WSOP bracelet. He then won the $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo Championship just a few weeks later to collect his second bracelet of the summer. He'll no doubt be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins to further cement his chances of being the 2022 WSOP POY.

Allen Kessler raced over to the PokerNews live reporting desk to notify the team about a huge hand that had just finished.

The pot was over 200,000, with Eric Kurtzman and Ryan Laplante all-in. Tsugunari Toma was the third player in the hand and was the covering stack.

The final board read {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and the players had their cards exposed.

Toma had {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for trip eights and the nut low. Kurtzman tabled his {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for nut low and two pair while Laplante had the {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a full house and again the nut low.

Laplante took two-thirds of the pot while the other two players took one-sixth of the pot.

Dustin Dirksen

With 33,000 in the middle on the {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts} board, Phillip Hui bet pot from the big blind before Dustin Dirksen jammed for 40,000 from the next seat over.

Scott Bohlman folded on the button after thinking about it for a few moments. Hui put in the call.

Dustin Dirksen: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Phillip Hui: {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

Both players flopped a ten-high straight but Dirksen had a better low. The {4-Hearts} completed the board and Dirksen took three-quarters of the pot to boost his stack.

Big Scoop for Siegel

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Jordan Siegel
Jordan Siegel

The cutoff was all in preflop for around 25,000, with Jordan Siegel and and Aaron Schaff calling from the hijack and small blind respectively.

Schaff moved all in on the {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop. Siegel, who was covered, called off his last 27,900 chips.

Cutoff: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Jordan Siegel: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}
Aaron Schaff: {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

The cutoff was way behind with just a pair of kings while Siegel was in a great position with a pair of aces as well as a wheel draw. Schaff too had outs to the wheel.

The {3-Spades} turn gave Siegel "nut-nut" as he made his wheel and he scooped the entire pot after a {3-} peeled off on the river.

Jose Paz-Gutierrez
Jose Paz-Gutierrez

Jose Paz-Gutierrez opened to 1,500 from middle position and was called by Bruno Fitoussi from the small blind.

Fitoussi check-raised the {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop to put his opponent all-in. Paz-Gutierrez called off his short stack.

Jose Paz-Gutierrez: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Bruno Fitoussi: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

The pot was chopped after the {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} runout.

The pair battled again the very next hand, with their stacks being moved into the middle on the {q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop. Paz-Gutierrez had {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} while Fitoussi had the {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

The former made Broadway on the {j-Spades} turn and held to double up following the {k-Spades} river.
