Event #73: $1,500 Razz
Day 1 Started
With The World Series Of Poker in its’ final leg, today begins Event #73: $1,500 Razz at Ballys and Paris in Las Vegas, the first of two Razz events occurring this WSOP. The popular stud-game variant has been a staple of the WSOP for decades and this year sees the two tournaments placed back-to back near the end of the series.
Last year saw Brad Ruben defeat Charles Sinn heads up, as well as 309 other entrants to take down his third WSOP bracelet for $99,188. With Ruben already having won his fourth bracelet this year, he will likely be playing this event to chase his player of the year prospects.
Other players likely to dazzle this event with their presence include defending WSOP POY Josh Arieh, Jake Schwartz, Daniel Negreanu, and all-time WSOP Razz earnings winner Phil Hellmuth, who has won two bracelets in Razz in the past.
The tournament will begin 25,000 starting stack with a 300 button ante, and a 100 bring in to a 200 completion. The limits will begin with 200/400 with the blinds going up once every 40 minutes. Registration will close at Level 9 around 9:45 A 15-minute break will occur after every three levels with players playing a full 15 levels for Day 1 before bagging up for Day 2. Opponent: / (Folded On Fifth)
On fourth street, Donavan Bates bet his ace which got calls from the player on the button and one more opponent while the bring in folded.
On fifth street, Bates paired his fours and the opponent on the button bet which folded out the other player and Bates called.
Bates called once more on sixth street when his opponent paired up and on seventh street when his opponent bet once more.
The button turned over for a ten-nine and Bates turned over for a better ten-nine which was good to take down an early pot. Bates had just told the table that this was his first time playing Razz and he has now won the first hand he's ever played of Razz.

"Roughest possible six," McMullin said, turning over for 6-5-4-3-2 that was enough to win the multi-way pot.

"Can I request a table change," Tony Curcio joked as he was the bring-in with his queen. He called a bet on third and fourth streets before leading out on fifth.
His opponent called, then called again when Curcio bet on sixth. Curcio put out another bet on seventh and was called.
"Seven-five," he announced, showing to turn his bring-in into a 7-5-3-2-A and rake in the pot.
The next hand, Curcio drew a queen and was, yet again, the bring-in, but this time he folded.
