Smith Leaves Hellmuth Fuming and on Fumes

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth and Shawn Smith went heads-up blind on blind to a {4-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop when Hellmuth called a bet.

Both players checked the {2-Clubs} turn before Hellmuth, changed from his Darth Vader custume into a black and yellow jersey, put out a 25,000 green chip and announced 12,000 on the {3-Clubs} river.

Shawn came back with a raise to 30,000 and sent the 16-time bracelet winner into the tank for several minutes.

"Three threes," Hellmuth asked.

"No, not that," Smith replied.

"Three queens," Hellmuth continued as he pondered the decision for most of his stack.

He eventually flicked in a call as Smith showed {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the runner-runner wheel. Hellmuth turned over {k-Clubs}{k-Spades} before throwing them into the muck, burying his head in his hands as he's been knocked down to a severe short stack an hour into his Main Event.
