Grant Doubles Up with Aces

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

The three-way action was picked up with 11,700 in the pot and a flop of {j-Clubs}{a-Spades}{2-Hearts} having just hit the table.

Action checked over to Ryan Grant in late position, who fired out for 3,000. The button raised it up to 10,000. After a fold from the player between them, Grant thought for a moment before stacking his remaining chips into a single tower and placing them into the center, a shove worth 27,700 total. His opponent went into the tank for a couple minutes, before making the call. He got up as though to leave before the hands had even been tabled.

Ryan Grant: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Upon seeing the hands, the opponent was quick to point out that he would have chips left, as he had around 40,000 or so in chips, enough to cover Grant, who was massively ahead. His opponent would need to hit runner-runner to make Broadway in order to take the pot and eliminate Grant. Instead, the {2-Spades} turn left him drawing dead before the {7-Hearts} river completed the board, giving Grant the double up.

Badziakouski Building Big Stack

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Mikita Badziakouski
Mikita Badziakouski

Jeevan Nomula limped from under the gun with Mikita Badziakouski doing the same in middle position. Kristopher Burchfield followed suit on the button as did Nicholas Luczyk from the small blind. Steven Cho then checked blind from the big blind.

Nomula bet 1,000 on the {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop and only Badziakouski and Burchfield called. Action then checked to Burchfield on the {9-Hearts} turn and he bet 3,500. Only Badziakouski called.

The {j-Diamonds} river checked through and Burchfield mucked after his opponent tabled his {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of kings.

Also at the table is four-time WSOP Bracelet winner Massimiliano Pescatori. He is to the direct left of Badziakouski and has above starting stack.

Marino Freire Raises River

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

The board read {q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} on the river. From the button, Lars Jurgens bet 5,000 into a pot of about 16,700. Gaia Marino Freire waited a bit before she raised to 15,000 from the cutoff.

Jurgens went into the tank and seemed torn over the decision before he ultimately folded.

Aquino Takes Some From Ivey

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey raised from under the gun to 1,000 and found one caller, Matthew Aquino on the button.

Heads up against Ivey, Aquino saw a flop of {j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Ivey checked, Aquino bet 1,500, and Ivey made the call.

The turn came the {q-Spades}, both players checked that street.

Ivey also checked the {7-Clubs} river, but Aquino did not. He bet 3,500 in position. Ivey thought for a bit and made the call.

Aquino showed {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for flopped two pair, good enough to take the pot from Ivey.

Johnson Battles With Legend Smith

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
John Smith
John Smith

There were three players in on the {10-Hearts}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{a-Hearts} turn when the action checked to the legendary heads-up player John Smith. He fired out 10,000 and only Sam Johnson from Australia called.

The river brought the {9-Clubs} and Smith fired off 28,000 more. Johnson took his time and called.

Smith tabled {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for aces and tens, but Johnson flipped over {7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for the flush.

The next hand pitted Smith and Johnson again. It was a limped pot three ways and the action checked to the {k-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} turn. There was a bet from the third player and Smith called.

Johnson raised it up to 5,500 and Smith shoved for about 25,000. Johnson called with the bigger stack.

John Smith: {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Sam Johnson: {k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Johnson was freerolling Smith with the flush draw, but the river fell the {9-Clubs} and they chopped it up.

Smith busted a few short minutes later but he is known for his spectacular performances in the $10,000 Heads-Up Championship that is played each year. He finished second in both 2016 and 2017 for more than $400,000. Smith is considered one of the old-school legends of the game. Though this year his Main Event run came to an early end.

Horwitz Doubles Up

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

Antoine Saout opened to 1,100 from under the gun and was called by Brad Horwitz in middle position as well as player in late position. Simon Wiciak then three-bet to 6,300 out of the small blind, which convinced Saout to release his holding. Horwitz called, leaving himself just 4,000 behind, while the late position player folded to generate heads-up action heading to the flop.

Horwitz promptly tossed his remaining chips into the middle following the {2-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop and received a quick call.

Brad Horwitz: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Simon Wiciak: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Horwitz was ahead, although he would have to dodge his opponent's two over cards as well as a gutshot to broadway. The {2-Hearts} turn removed Wiciak's straights outs with the {6-Clubs} river completing a safe runout for Horwitz.
