Event #17: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better
Day 2 Started
The 2023 World Series of Poker is in full swing and action in Event #17: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better is set to get underway with it's Day 2 session shortly here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
The tournament played through 15 levels yesterday during it's Day 1 session and today, 394 remaining players will return at 1:00 p.m., scheduled to play ten 60-minute levels. This event broke last year's record by 76 entries and officially became the largest Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better tournament in WSOP history.
Adel Shakerian will come back the biggest stack when players return as he closed out the day holding the chip lead, having put 239,000 in the bag. Prior to this tournament, Shakerian had just over $45,000 in recorded live poker tournament cashes according to HendonMob, so making a push toward the first-place prize of $262,542 and the bracelet will certainly be on his mind.
The remaining players in the field will make it no easy task, though, as many big name players and bracelet winners will also be gunning to secure the lion's share of the record-breaking $1,525,905 prize pool.
Rounding out the top ten in the chip counts are Benjamin Vidal (210,5000, Colin Burton (202,500), Jason Daly (176,500) and Glen Munro (166,500).

9 | Hlias Azakas | United States | 167,000 | 42 |
10 | Glen Munro | United States | 166,500 | 42 |
While there are quite literally too many left to name them all, other notable players returning for Day 2 include Connor Drinan (157,000), Chris Tryba (146,500), Max Pescatori (130,000), Hall of Famer Linda Johnson (129,000), Mike Matusow (68,500) and Shaun Deeb (58,500).
Out of the 394 players returning, just 172 will make the money with a min-cash securing a $2,404 payday and while no one wants to get eliminated before the bubble bursts, with the caliber of players that showed up for this event, it's safe to say that no one will be playing just to sneak into the money.

On the first hand of Day 2, DJ Buckley and Ken Aldridge were all in on a 3♣3♥J♠ flop and up against big stack Nitesh Rawtani.
DJ Buckley: 6♥J♦6♦Q♥
Ken Aldridge: J♥10♠J♣8♥
Nitesh Rawtani: A♠8♠Q♠Q♦
"I have a flush draw," Rawtani said as the 7♠ fell on the turn. The river came the 5♠, completing his flush, but it was no good against the flopped full house of Aldridge.
"A flush wouldn't have helped you," Aldridge pointed out as he took in the pot, while Buckley was eliminated.

Action folded to Christopher Kennedy who raised before Bradley Butcher to his direct left came in for a three-bet. Action folded around to Kennedy who stuck in a call and the players were off to a 5♦A♦3♥ flop.
Kennedy check-called a bet from Butcher before watching as the 2♥ peeled off on the turn, prompting both players to check through to a river of the 10♦.
Action checked through again and Butcher turned up the A♠8♣5♣2♦, good enough to send only a quarter of the pot to Kennedy holding the A♣Q♣5♠2♣.

Chan check-called a bet from Rothberg and both players were off to a 7♦ turn card. Chan again elected to check-call a bet from Rothberg before seeing the Q♦ hit the river.
Both players checked through and Rothberg turned up the AxAxJx5x, good enough for the high and the low, as Chan tossed his cards toward the muck.
