Patel Dodges the World to Double

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

There were about 130,000 chips in the middle and the flop read QJ5. Once the big blind checked, Talesh Patel dropped a bet of 55,000 across the line. His opponent in the big blind check-called.

The K fell on the turn, and the big blind check-raised the bet of 80,000 all-in for 430,000. Patel went gave it some serious thought, taking almost two minutes before calling off his stack of 325,000.

Talesh Patel: K4
Opponent: 104

Patel turned top pair which was ahead but he had to dodge the flush draw and open-ended straight draw of his opponent. The 2 river was a safe one though for Patel as he remained in his seat.

Three Eliminations on the Bubble

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante

Tom Gottlieb opened 40,000 under the gun, and the cutoff called before Ian Richardson shoved for about 500,000 in the big blind. Gottlieb called off his stack of 230,000 and the cutoff tanked for three minutes before a tablemate called the clock. When the tournament director stuck 0, his hand was killed.

Tom Gottlieb: AK
Ian Richardson: JJ

The board ran out J10988, giving Richardson a full house to eliminate Gottlieb.

At another table

Wen Hong open jammed from the cutoff for 55,000. Jason Wheeler in the big blind called off the bet and Hong was at risk.

Wen Hong: AQ
Jason Wheeler: 86

The board ran out 8876Q. A full house for Wheeler was enough to send Hong home on the bubble.

However, there was an elimination on a third table at the same time, eliminating all three players, and there were 174 players remaining before the hand so all three split the minimum cash of $2,400.
