PokerNews Deepstack Championship Takes Center Stage at 2024 WSOP

The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is officially underway, inside the series' home at Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas.

The Debuting Event #1: $5,000 Champions Reunion just kicked off, with Jonathan Marchessault of the Vegas Golden Knights conducting the opening “Shuffle Up and Deal.” Marchessault is one of the many familiar faces in attendance, and you'll be able to follow how he gets on in our live updates.

Event #2: $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em also starts proceedings today at 2 p.m.

In between the two tournaments, the first-ever PokerNews Deepstack Challenge also gets its feet off of the ground. Adding a new and exciting spin to the WSOP Daily Deepstacks, the PokerNews Deepstack Challenge is a new leaderboard promotion that will send 40 players to the $600 PokerNews Deepstack Championship bracelet event.

Across the first four weeks of the series, players who participate in any WSOP Daily DeepStack will be enrolled into the leaderboard, where the top ten players each week will a ticket to the $600 PokerNews DeepStack Championship.

The Daily Deepstacks start at 1 p.m. inside the brand-new Daily Deepstacks room at Horseshoe and has a $250 buy-in. The $400 and $200 installments begin at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively.

Across the PNDC, we’ll spotlight the home game heroes, low-stakes grinders and everyone who gets into the mix. Furthermore, players who make any Daily Deepstack Final Table will receive a commemorative card protector, with Deepstack winners taking home a limited edition version.

$600 PokerNews Deepstack Championship

The buy-in for the PokerNews Deepstack Championship event at the 2024 WSOP is $600 - among one of the lowest buy-ins in the Series. We looked to give low-stakes grinders an opportunity to win their way to a coveted WSOP bracelet, and the $600 entry fee is both affordable and offers the chance to win big money from an expected large prize pool.

The $250 WSOP Daily Deepstack that started at 1 p.m. is close to the money bubble, with 52 of the 237 entrants remaining.

The top 30 players will make the money and grab a slice of the $47,400, where more than $10,000 awaits the winner. The min-cash for the event is a respectable $506.

It's the second day of the 2024 World Series of Poker, and with that, three fresh WSOP Daily Deepstacks are getting ready for their shuffle-up and deals.

Yesterday's 1 p.m. tournament was won by Canada's Simmy Mok, before Kum Im topped the small field in the $400 edition. Poker Pro Cory Biddle reigned supreme in the third Deepstack of the day to wrap up the opening day's proceedings.

We'll bring more news to you about the first set of champions as the day progresses, but until we do, let's take a look at what's on the agenda for today.

In the realm of the Daily Deepstacks, here's today's schedule:

For the bracelet events taking place in Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas, there's plenty of action in store.

Event #1: $5,000 Champions Reunion, a debuting tournament, kicked off the 55th WSOP in style and sees 99 of the 493 entrants return for Day 2 at noon local time. The top 74 players will finish in the money and guarantee themselves a payday of $9,141, with the eventual champion earning $408,468.

2016 WSOP Main Event champion Qui Nguyen ended Day 1 with 663,000 for the chip lead, narrowly ahead of China's Xiaohu Liuwho bagged 661,000.

The series' first bracelet winner will be determined in Event #2: $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em later today. The pack of 179 players continue their pursuit of the piece of WSOP hardware at 1 p.m. and are competing for a $79,134 first-place prize.

PokerNews' Claudio Elizalde (308,000), Tyler Boyer (292,000), Chance Castro (159,000), Nick Becker (113,000), Lukas Robinson (110,000), Connor Richards (82,000), and Tyler Foran (52,000) also made it through to Day 2.

Two more events get underway today, with Event #3: $500 WSOP Kickoff No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout, which already has cards in the air.

The first non-hold'em tournament of the series, Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better (8-Handed), also begins at 2 p.m.

The full results are in from yesterday's $400 Daily Deepstack that started at 4 p.m.

Kum Im topped the 21-entry field, taking a prize of $2,863 from the $6,930 prize pool. Chun Lung Wong and Paul Pirrone rounded out the podium finishes, with Nicholas Seddon taking the $944.

Cory Biddle Takes Top Spot in $200 8 p.m. Daily Deepstack (May 28)

The third and final WSOP Daily Deepstack of the opening day of the series wrapped up just before 3 a.m., with professional poker player Cory Biddle emerging as the victor.

This isn't the first time the 43-year-old has tasted success at Horseshoe and Paris, as the North Carolina resident took down a $400 Daily Deepstack a year ago for $23,917.

More impressively, he banked his first piece of WSOP hardware after he reigned supreme over the $2,200 High Roller at WSOPC Cherokee last August. His maiden ring win netted him a career-best score of $93,116, which was sweetened by the fact that he qualified for the High Roller from a $300 satellite.

The event saw 115 players and had a prize pool of $17,825. Take a look at the payouts below.

The last member of Team PokerNews has been eliminated from the $250 Daily Deepstack.

After being reduced to 60,000 at the 3,000 big blind. I looked down at A♦5♥ in the big blind. The early position player limped before the player in middle position made it 8,000. I called and so did the limper.

The original raiser continued for 6,000 on the 3♦4♣3♠ flop and was called in two spots. The 7♦ turn then checked through to the 8♠ river.

With 42,000 behind, I moved all in, and was met with a snap-fold from the early position player. The middle position player asked for a count and went deep into the tank. Despite my best poker face, my opponent called as the bigger stack.

I sheepishly turned over my raggy-ace and was stunned to see I was hero-called by A♠J♠, which was enough to take the pot and mark my demise.

That's the end of my time in the Daily Deepstack, but best of luck to the 100 or so players remaining.

Kick off your day with some poker excitement! The opening Daily Deepstack of the day starts at 1 p.m. and promises a thrilling single-day event. With a $250 buy-in, you'll get a solid 25,000 starting stack to work with.

For the latecomers, late registration is open until the start of Level 9, and you can jump back in with unlimited reentries. Each level runs for 30 minutes, with 15-minute breaks sprinkled throughout the day, and a longer 30-minute break after Level 12 to recharge.

Get ready for some poker action! The second Daily Deepstack of the day shuffles up and deals at 4 p.m. This single-day extravaganza comes with a $400 buy-in, giving you a hefty 30,000 starting stack to play with.

Feeling adventurous? Late registration is open until the start of Level 9, around 7:35 p.m., and you can reenter as many times as you like. Each level is a quick 20 minutes, with plenty of 15- and 20-minute breaks to catch your breath and strategize.
