Mahoney Kills Holtz's Dreams

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

2023 WSOP Online PoY Mike Holtz opened to 2,200 and then the button three-bet to 7,000, but then Jeff Mahoney moved all in for 45,000. Holtz quickly called for less and the button promptly folded.

Mike Holtz: QxQxAll in
Jeff Mahoney: AxKx

Holtz was in the lead going into this classic flip, but the runout of Kx2x2x3xJx ended his dream of one-bullet glory and sent him to the registration line.

Trips Versus Trips Unlucky for Valdes

Level 8 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Carlos Valdes had to say goodbye to a big portion of his chips in a cooler versus Brownie Garrett.

The board was 1010Q45 and Garrett made it 15,000 on the river into a pot of about 19,500. Valdes called and Garret showed A10 for trip tens with an ace kicker.

Valdes muttered to himself, visibly disappointed, and showed the table J10 for trips with a worse kicker. The pot of 54,000 chips went to Garrett, who now sits on a comfortable stack of 125 big blinds.
