Rafael Reis was all in, with less than one big blind in a hand against Darrin Gerr. Reis held Q♦7♣, while Gerr had A♦J♥. The board ran out 5♣K♠5♥7♦3♣ and Reis' pair of sevens kept his tournament hopes alive.
That was until the very next hand where Reis moved all in again from under the gun, and Gerr called.
Rafael Reis: Q♣5♠
Darrin Gerr: K♥9♦
The flop came 10♥6♦4♦, with Gerr still in the lead. The turn fell the Q♦, pairing Reis' queen. The J♠ river brought in a straight for Gerr, who scooped the pot and sent Reis to the rail.
Raymond Mancini opened from under the gun to 250,000 and Derek Stark three-bet to 1,000,000 in the hijack, with 500,000 behind. Steven Parkin, who was in the cutoff, committed his last 700,000 chips and Mancini opted to get out of the way.
Steven Parkin: A♣K♥
Derek Stark: A♦A♥
Stark improved to top set on the 2♥A♠5♥ flop, leaving his opponent on the ropes. Parkin would need runner-runner straight for a chop to stay alive.
The turn landed the 9♥, locking up the win for Stark and the meaningless 3♠ completed the board.
Action folded around to Peter Placey in the small blind, who moved all in, putting his opponent, Damien Wierzbicki, at risk in the big blind. Wierzbicki made the call.
Damien Wierzbicki: A♠10♦
Peter Placey: Q♠J♦
The 8♥9♥4♥ flop was safe for Wierzbicki, but Placey pulled ahead on the J♣ turn. The river brought the 4♦, and Placey dragged in the pot, ending Wierzbicki's tournament run.
Richy Rob was down to just 250,000 early in the day and spun it to well over a million before going all in and being isolated by the bigger stack of Bradley Gafford.
Richy Rob: A♦Q♥
Bradley Gafford: A♠K♣
Rob was rooting for a chop when the 3♦7♥3♠ board rolled off but the turn and river were bricks and he was reluctantly sent to the payouts.
