Event #26: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em (8-Handed)

Day 2 Started

Rheem Among the Big Stacks on Day 2 of $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em

Chino Rheem

Another day of high roller action is set to begin in Event #26: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em (8-Handed) here at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The prestigious event has attracted 274 entries thus far. Of those, 99 are returning from Day 1 and are expected to be joined by many more before late registration closes.

Samuel Laskowitz bagged up the chip lead last night after ending with 1,211,000. Not far behind him is poker veteran Chino Rheem (1,101,000), who, despite having nearly $15 million in live-tournament earnings, has yet to win a WSOP bracelet. Rheem came close in 2006 after finishing runner-up to Allen Cunningham in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event and he will surely be looking to leave the group of “one of the best without a bracelet.”

Also among the star-studded field going into Day 2 are Maria Ho (230,000), Andrew Lichtenberger (246,000), Jason Mercier (277,000), Koray Aldemir (309,000), Espen Jorstad (356,000), Erik Seidel (389,000), Nick Schulman (467,000), Stephen Chidwick (573,000), Jason Koon (589,000), Dan Smith (719,000), and Phil Ivey, who bagged up a top-ten stack with 838,000. A win for Ivey would be his first in the WSOP since 2014, when he took down a $1,500 Eight-Game Mix event for $167,332 and his tenth bracelet.

The tournament is set to resume at 12 p.m. local time and continue for ten 60-minute levels. Play will begin on Level 9, which features 4,000/8,000 blinds with an 8,000 big blind ante. Players will get a 15-minute break after every two levels and an extended 60-minute break at the end of Level 14, which should take place at approximately 6:30 p.m. Late registration will remain open until the end of Level 9 at about 1 p.m.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring you the action leading to the money bubble and beyond in this prestigious $25,000 High Roller event!

Mike Shi open-raised from the cutoff and Aaron Johnson defended his big blind. Shi then continued for the minimum of 8,000 chips on the AJJ flop, which Johnson check-called.

On the 9 turn, Johnson checked once more before Shi piled in 42,000 chips. Johnson called again and the 5 river completed the board.

When Johnson checked for a third time, Shi put him all in for his remaining 68,000 chips. A quick fold followed as Shi expanded his big stack early on Day 2.

Plesuv Puts on a Squeeze

Level 9 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Martin Kabrhel raised to 17,000 from the hijack and was called by Sergio Aido on the button. Pavel Plesuv then squeezed to 85,000, which got a fold from both Kabrhel and Aido to take down the pot uncontested.

“What’ve you got there?” Kabrhel yelled across the table at Plesuv.

“I forgot,” Plesuv replied as he collected the pot.

Ivey Gets Value From Bonomo

Level 9 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey opened the action with a raise to 18,000 as first to act. Justin Bonomo then made it 60,000 to go on the button and Ivey called.

The flop was dealt 4Q9 and Ivey check-called a 40,000-chip bet from Bonomo. The 3 turn was then checked by both players before Ivey fired a big bet of 200,000 on the 2 river.

Bonomo quickly flicked in a call, after which Ivey tabled Q10 for top pair. Bonomo's cards were added to the muck and Ivey was awarded the pot, helping him over the seven-figure mark.

Weisman In and Out (And In?)

Level 9 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Dylan Weisman had just registered when James Chen raised to 30,000 in the small blind. Weisman then jammed in slightly less than his starting stack from the big blind and Chen immediately called.

Dylan Weisman: K3 All in
James Chen: AA

"That's a good hand," remarked Weisman.

"Better in hold'em than in Omaha," Chen replied as the 978 flop was dealt.

Weisman pleaded for a chop, but instead, he was drawing dead on the 4 turn. He said his goodbyes as the 5 river rolled off and headed to the exit.

"Good luck on your next bullet," Chen said to Weisman while the latter was on his way.

"Yeah, probably," replied Weisman.
