Negreanu Can't Catch Against Hale

Brant Hale bet his last chips on the second draw and Daniel Negreanu called.

Hale stood pat and turned over 8x7x6x4x2x, while Negreanu showed 8x5x4x2x as he took one.

"It's a three-across club. 50-50," Negreanu said as he peeked at his last card, which turned out to be another eight to give him a pair as Hale doubled up.

Jesse Lonis and Chris Brewer recently departed the tournament area.

Negreanu Battles Back from the Brink

Ian Johns opened from the cutoff, Daniel Negreanu three-bet from the button, Johns four-bet from the cutoff and Negreanu, who had started the hand with 8,500, called off to put himself at risk.

Both players drew one for the first draw and then stood pat for the second draw. For the final draw Johns broke his hand and drew one while Negreanu stood pat again.

Negreanu had drew into a monster after the first draw and needed to fade only a five or four to win the pot. Johns bricked out on the final draw and Negreanu scored a full double up.

Two hands later, Negreanu opened from the hijack and was called by Brent Hale on the button. Both players drew two.

After the first draw Negreanu bet and Hale called. This time both players drew one.

Negreanu checked after the second draw, Hale bet and Negreanu called. Hale stood pat while Negreanu drew one.

With no draws remaining Negreanu bet and was called by Hale. Negreanu tabled 7x6x4x3x2x for number two to take the pot while Hale was left short-stacked.

Lonis drew one and Suzuki took two. Lonis then bet again and Suzuki called.

Lonis stood pat on the third draw, while Suzuki took two more. Lonis checked to Suzuki who bet, and Lonis called.

Suzuki showed 9x6x5x4x2x and Lonis mucked.

Both players drew two and Guagenti bet. Johansson called and drew two again, while Guagenti stood pat.

Guagenti bet again, but this time Johansson raised and Guagenti called. He stood pat and Johansson drew one.

Both players checked and Guagenti showed 9x8x6x3x2x to win the pot.

Baker Breaks an Eight

Viktor Blom raised in the hijack, David "ODB" Baker reraised on the button, and Blom called.

Both players drew one and Baker bet. Blom then raised and Baker called.

Blom stood pat on the second draw. "Alright, I'll break the eight," Baker said as he tossed an eight into the middle of the table. Blom bet and Baker came back with a raise.

Blom spent a few moments in the tank before calling. Baker then stood pat, Blom drew one, and Baker bet. Blom quickly folded.

At the same table, Chad Eveslage has built up his stack to around 180,000 and is among the chip leaders.
