The flop came 2♥2♦6♦. "That's a good start," commented Nordkvist.

The turn came the 10♦. "That's a bad turn," commented Nordkvist.

The K♥ river did not beat the full house of Moncek, and Nordkvist paid his opponent.

Scott Seiver defended the big blind and then check-called a bet by Joao Simao on the K♣J♥2♣ flop to see the 2♥ on the turn. Seiver checked again and Simao in the cutoff bet 50,000 before the check-shove for 254,000 followed.

Simao used three time bank extensions before making the call.

The 8♠ river changed nothing anymore as Seiver doubled. In the meanwhile, Eric Wasserson had dropped by to share the news that his aces were cracked by a Badugi hand. A short-stacked Arthur Morris departed shortly after from the same table, too.

The action was picked up on the turn of 7♣K♠J♣5♠, where Tim Van Loo made a pot-sized bet of 77,000 from the big blind. Lou Garza called to see the 2♣ turn.

Van Loo slowed down and checked, and Garza opted to do the same after some time. Van Loo tabled Q♣J♠J♦8♣ for a flush and took down the pot.

"Good check-back," Van Loo said to Garza as he was stacking.

Five ways limped to the 9♥8♠6♣ flop, the action checked around and Raphael Schreiner then bet the J♦ turn for 33,000 from under the gun. Billy Tarango in the cutoff and Cong Pham in the small blind called.

Pham checked the 3♥ river and Schreiner bet 55,000. Tarango called and Pham folded for Schreiner to reveal K♥K♠Q♣10♣ for the nut straight to win the pot.

Nacho Barbero had raised to 35,000 preflop from the cutoff and was called by Santhosh Suvarna on the button and Ben Lamb in the big blind. The flop then fell 5♥10♦9♠ and Lamb checked.

Barbero made a bet of 55,000, which Suvarna raised to 300,000. Lamb then shoved all in, covering both of his opponents.

Barbero spent a few minutes in the tank before calling for roughly 540,000 chips, as did Suvarna for his stack of 433,000, leading to a three-way showdown.

The 7♦ turn gave Barbero the nut flush draw in addition to his open-ender, but the A♣ bricked out for everyone.

Barbero got no part of any pot and headed out the tournament area with 15 minutes left on Day 1.

A large four-way pot was looming over on table 143 and the flop of K♥6♦3♠ saw Sam Soverel as well as Eric Kurtzman check. Jason Mercier in the cutoff then moved all-in for 317,000 and Evan Krentzman called all-in for 127,000. Sam Soverel called as well with a shorter stack and Kurtzman folded.

Mercier was ahead with the top and bottom pair, which remained to be the case with the 5♣ turn. He asked for a queen and received the Q♦ river to scoop an enormous pot.

Krentzman re-entered shortly after while Soverel can still jump back in tonight or in the first level of Day 2.
