Today sees the start of Event #87: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
Last year’s event attracted 813 entries generating a prize pool of $3,739,800. The winner was Alex Keating who defeated Guoliang Wei heads up to win $701,688 and his first WSOP bracelet.

This two-day event gets underway at 2 p.m. local time with late registration open for 12 levels (~8:45 p.m.). This event allows for one reentry and there will be 15-minute breaks every four levels.
The starting stack is 50,000 chips with the plan for Day 1 to play 20 30-minute levels. For the surviving players, Day 2 resumes at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, and plays down to a winner.

Action was caught on the turn in a hand between Cameron Collins in the small blind, the under-the-gun player, and the player on the button.
With about 20,000 in the pot and the board reading 4♣3♠Q♦7♠, all three players checked bringing the 7♦ river.
Collins led out for 15,000, under the gun called, and the button folded. Collins tabled A♣Q♥ for two pair, queens and sevens while under the gun showed J♥J♠ for two pair, jacks and sevens.

A player limped in under the gun before Kody Hammer raised to 600 from middle position. The big blind called as did the under the gun player.
The dealer fanned a 3♣7♦10♠ flop and the under the gun player bet 1,000. Hammer raised to 3,000, the big blind folded and the under the gun player called.
The turn was the 2♠, the under the gun player checked, Hammer decided to wager 5,000 and his opponent tossed his cards into the muck.

Toby Boas raised to 600 from under the gun and the player in the cutoff called.
The flop came 6♠3♥J♠ and Boas check-raised to 2,200 over the cutoff's bet of 500.
The cutoff thought for a moment before tossing his cards into the muck.

Three players saw a flop of 9♥3♥5♦. The under-the-gun player bet 1,100, which made the cutoff fold, but Viktor Blom check-called from the big blind.
On the K♦ turn, the under-the-gun fired a second barrel and Blom check-called once again, then both players checked the 6♦ river.
First player to reveal his cards, Blom flipped over J♠9♠ for a pair but his opponent with A♥9♦ had a better kicker.

The pot had already swelled to approximately 7,000 with two players heading to a flop of 10♣6♥2♣.
Jessica Teusl, who was under the gun, bet out for 4,000. The player on the button called.
The 5♥ turn saw Teusl continue for an additional 14,000 and the button was forced to fold.
