Final Five Take Aim at $582,000 and a Coveted Gold Bracelet

Renji Mao
Renji Mao

Just five players remain in the hunt for gold from the 693-player field as Event #3: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em at the 2025 World Series of Poker plays down to a winner today at Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. Each of them is now guaranteed a six-figure payout from the $3,720,960 prize pool, but all eyes are on the $582,008 top prize and a prestigious WSOP gold bracelet.

Leading the charge is Christian Roberts, who bagged a towering 10,075,000 chips heading into the final session. The Venezuelan player is no stranger to deep WSOP runs, having cashed more than 60 times in bracelet events. He claimed his first bracelet in 2023 and is now in prime position to capture a second, along with maximum points for his 25K Fantasy team, Girl Dads.

Antonio Galiana (8,430,000) and Renji Mao (6,340,000) sit right behind him and both have strong poker resumes of their own. Galiana won his first bracelet just last year in the $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em, while Mao took down a massive $800 Deepstack event in 2023 and has since become one of China’s most consistent performers. France’s Gaetan Balleur (5,160,000) and Canada’s Frederic Normand (4,675,000) round out the final five, with plenty of room to maneuver as they chase down the leaders.

Each of the five finalists is now guaranteed $137,948, but there’s still plenty to play for. The next pay jump awards $191,550, followed by $270,407 for third and $387,979 for the runner-up. At the top of the payout ladder sits the $582,008 first-place prize and the honor of becoming a WSOP bracelet winner.

Gaetan Balleur opened to 320,000 on the button and Antonio Galiana three-bet to 1,380,000 from the small blind. When it got back to Balleur, he shoved for 4,910,000. Galiana quickly called.

Balleur's future in the tournament was looking bleak, but the Q910 flop gave him a flush draw and a lot more outs. A Q on the turn paired the board, and the 8 river gave Galiana a straight, sending Balleur to the rail.

Renji Mao
Renji Mao

Renji Mao picked up AA in the small blind and limped in, and Frederic Normand checked with A2 in the big blind.

On the 438 flop, both players checked to the 8 turn and Mao bet 350,000. Normand called.

A 2 on the river gave Normand a pair and he had a decision to make as Mao bet 1,000,000. Normand mulled it over for quite some time before he slammed down a stack of chips and called.

Mao showed his bullets and dragged in the pot.

Renji Mao raised to 400,000 with K9 on the button and Antonio Galiana defended with 74 in the big blind.

The flop came 865 and Galiana led out with his straight for 350,000, only for Mao to raise to 900,000. Galiana just called.

A 3 dropped on the turn and after Galiana checked, Mao continued to bluff with a bet of 800,000. Galiana then check-raised to 1,600,000 and Mao, with 2,700,000 remaining in his stack, eventually folded.

The action folded around to Renji Mao in the small blind, who shoved for 2,055,000. Frederic Normand was in the big blind and after thinking for some time, he called.

Renji Mao: 109 All in
Frederic Normand: A5

Normand had the lead with his ace-high and stayed in front after the deal spread J33. A 5 on the turn paired Normand, but didn't change the fact that Mao needed a ten or a nine to stay alive.

Unfortunately for the Mao, a Q rolled off on the river, meaning he was out in 4th.

They both flopped a piece on 47K and checked to the 4 turn. Normand fired out 250,000 with his trips and Galiana called to the 9 river. Normand put in a sneaky check and Galiana bet 875,000, then was faced with a raise as Normand made it 3,175,000.

Galiana was in the tank for around two minutes and didn't look any closer to making a decision. Eventually, after a further few minutes, Galiana did eventually lay it down.

Galiana's Triple Barrel Bluff Gets Through After Ten-Minute Tank From Normand

Level 32 : Blinds 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Antonio Galiana
Antonio Galiana

Antonio Galiana limped in with 62 on the button and Frederic Normand checked with 43 from the big blind.

The flop came 7A4 and Normand check-called a bet of 400,000 from Galiana to the 8 turn, where Normand checked and Galiana fired 2,100,000. Normand stuck around with a call.

A J hit the river and Normand tapped the table again. Galiana, with just six-high, announced a bet of 5,500,000. Normand had the best hand with his pair of fours, but couldn't make a decision as he was still in the tank after around five minutes.

"I don't know what to do," said Normand as he exhaled.

Another five minutes passed and Galiana called the clock, putting Normand on a countdown. Eventually, Normand did lay it down, allowing Galiana to breathe a sigh of relief and almost even out the stacks.
