Upright Frustrates Kessler on the River

Allen Kessler and Patrick Upright went to the turn on a board of 9♦Q♣5♥4♠ where Kessler bet from the cutoff. Upright called in the hijack.

The river was the 3♦ and Upright led out with a bet. "It can't be possible," Kessler said before tossing in the chips to call.

Upright then showed A♠A♥10♠2♥ for a rivered wheel. "You were drawing dead on the flop," Kessler said, tossing A♣Q♠Q♥4♥ into the muck as Upright scooped the pot.

Bracelet winner Dominick Sarle has also taken his seat at this table.

Kelly Chapman called under the gun and Nathan Gamble raised in middle position. Jarryd Godena three bet in the small blind and Esther Taylor came along in the big blind with Gamble and Chapman calling behind.

Godena checked the flop of J♥9♦6♣ over to Taylor who bet. Chapman folded while Gamble raised which only Taylor called.

Both players checked the turn 8♥ to the K♦ river where Taylor bet and Gamble folded.

Kevin Phillipson bet from the big blind on a board of 10♣Q♥10♥J♣ and Kenneth Wend called all in from under the gun. William Mattison then raised in the cutoff and Phillipson got out of the way.

Wend showed A♥A♠6♦2♦, but Mattison had A♣K♣5♣4♦ for a straight. The river was the K♦ and Mattison took the pot to send Wend to the rail.

Heads-up on a flop of K♦J♥Q♥, Christian Wilbert bet from the button and Mike Leah called under the gun.

Wilbert bet again on the 3♠ turn and Leah called. The river was the 7♦ and Wilbert put out another bet before Leah had acted. Leah eventually checked and the dealer told Wilbert his bet had to remain in the pot.

"I call. Show ace-ten and take all the chips," Leah said, and Wilbert indeed showed him A♣A♦K♥10♠ for a straight to win the pot.

"He had the nuts and couldn't wait to get his money in," another tablemate added after the hand.

Darryll Fish and Jon Kyte are also seated at this table.

Pot And a Card Get Away From Berg as Merivirta Fills Up

Jyri Merivirta raised in early position and received calls from Lawrence Berg in the hijack and Brad Owen in the big blind.

Merivirta bet on the 8♣5♥2♥ flop and only Berg called. Merivirta bet again on the 8♥ turn and Berg called once more.

Merivirta put out another bet on the A♦ river and Berg called. Merivirta then turned over A♠A♣8♦7♥ for a full house and Berg squeezed his cards so hard that one of them flew across the table and onto the floor. One of his tablemates had to retrieve it for him, and Berg then sent all four into the muck.

Nick Kost, runner-up in this event at the 2023 WSOP, is also at this table.
