Veerachai Vongxaiburana raised to 700,000 on the button, with Phil Hui calling in the big blind to see the 2♦7♥3♦ flop.

Both players checked to the 9♠ turn, where Hui tapped the table again. Vongxaiburana fired a bet of 900,000, taking down the pot as Hui send his cards into the muck.

Phil Hellmuth, off to an otherwise slow start to the summer, is deep in Event #47: $2,500 Mixed O8/Stud 8. He was among the 575 entrants seeking the $244,674 first-place prize, along with the gold bracelet.

Vongxaiburana Puts in a Rare Preflop Raise

With nearly every pot during heads-up being limped preflop, Veerachai Vongxaiburana decided to change things up a bit by raising to 700,000 on the button. Phil Hui called and they saw a flop of J♣3♠8♥.

Both players checked to the 5♥ turn where Vongxaiburana bet 900,000. Hui called and the 8♦ river was also checked down.

Hui showed 7♠6♦5♣3♦2♦ for two pair, while Vongxaiburana had A♦Q♠7♣6♣2♠ for a low to chop the pot.

After trading small pots over the last several minutes, Phil Hui limped on the button and Veerachai Vongxaiburana checked in the big blind.

The dealer fanned out the 5♣3♠8♣ flop, and both players checked ot see the 9♠ turn. Vongxaiburana led out for 500,000 and Hui called.

Another pair of checks followed the 7♦ river. Vongxaiburana announced aces, while Hui tabled K♠8♠7♠4♠2♦ for two pair and the best low, scooping to move back into the lead.

Hui Regains the Lead

Phil Hui limped on the button, and Veerachai Vongxaiburana checked his big blind option.

Both players opted to check the 2♥J♥Q♠ flop before Vongxaiburana led out for 400,000 on the 10♣ turn.

Hui called to see the 5♠ river, where Vongxaiburana checked. Hui fired a bet of 300,000, only to be check-raised to 1,300,000 by Vongxaiburana.

Hui made the quick call.

"Good call," Vongxaiburana said as Hui tabled A♥Q♦9♣9♦6♦ for top pair. That was enough to take over the chip lead as Vongxaiburana mucked.

Vongxaiburana checked to Hui, who fired 400,000. The call was made to see the 2♣ river, where Vongxaiburana checked one last time. Hui announced a bet of 1,700,000.

Vongxaiburana replied by announcing pot, raising enough to put his opponent all in. After counting his remaining stack, Hui opted to let his hand go, and Vongxaiburana added to his lead.

The turn was the 2♦ and Vongxaiburana bet another 400,000. Hui again called to the 6♠ river, where Vongxaiburana bet 1,000,000. Hui then announced pot and Vongxaiburana snap-called.

Hui showed K♦Q♥9♣5♣3♦ for a low, while Vongxaiburana had nines full of deuces to chop the pot.

A few hands later, both players checked to the turn on a board of 9♣2♦Q♠5♥ when Vongxaiburana bet 400,000 from the button. Hui called and the river was the 7♦.

Vongxaiburana then bet 1,000,000 and Hui raised to 4,500,000. Vongxaiburana quickly called once more with K♠J♣6♥8♦4♦ for a straight, while Hui had A♣7♠5♠3♦2♠ to chop another pot.
