Who Will Reach the Final Table in $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold'em?

Thomas Boivin
Thomas Boivin

It is one of the toughest and most challenging events to win in the World Series of Poker. Event #62: $5,000 6-Handed No Limit Hold'em often attracts some of the game's best players, and this year, a whopping 1,168 entries were recorded by the close of registration, which created a prize pool of more than $5.3 million.

Today, just 54 hopefuls will return to their seats for the third and penultimate day of this tournament. Leading the way after a late-night surge on Day 2 is Robert Ashelm from Germany. Given the choice between playing this event or the Super Seniors just a few tables away, Ashelm chose the harder of the two options, but so far it has paid off. He will be closely followed by WSOP bracelet winner Samuel Bernabeu who will be looking to add some more jewelry to his collection.

There are many other notables looking to make their marks today. The 2014 WSOP Main Event champion, Martin Jacobson, is still in the mix with a stack of 505,000 and some could say he has them right where he wants them. Jacobson is the master of a short stack and will feel no pressure to do anything special when the cards go back in the air.

Thomas Boivin (2,005,000) will be looking to improve on his two third-place finishes in the high roller events earlier this series, Niall Farrell (1,735,000) has high hopes of another boisterous rail on route to a potential final table, and high-stakes cash game player Sergio Fernandez (1,525,000) has his sights set on landing his first major tournament title.

All this and more will be unfolding today at the Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas, when the action gets underway at 12 p.m. local time. The players will be returning to Level 21 with the blinds at 10,000/25,000 and a 25,000 big blind ante. The plan is to play down to the final table or five players, depending on the pace of play. Those players will then return for the fourth and final day on Thursday, June 26, when a winner will be crowned.

Be sure to stay tuned to the PokerNews live updates for all the latest news and to find out who will lock up their spot at the final table later this evening.
