Guha Takes From Yang

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang

Sergio Giha raised to 600 from the button and was called by Jerry Yang in the big blind.

The dealer revealed a 10A8 flop. Yang checked, Giha bet 800, Yang raised to 2,500, and Giha made the call.

The turn card was the 9. Giha bet 11,000, and Yang took some time before making the call.

The river was the J. Giha now bet 8,000, Yang called, and was shown Q9, which he could not beat. He told Giha that he had gotten "very lucky."

Molino Gets There

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

With the pot at 2,000, the flop came 875 and Mariano Molino checked from the small blind, Charles Shaverdians bet out for 1,000, and Molino called.

The turn brought the 10, and again Molino checked, allowing Shaverdians to bet out for 2,000, but now Molino check-raised to 4,800. Shaverdians called.

The Q peeled off on the river, and now Molino led out for 7,800, and Shaverdians snap called. Molino turned over QJ for a rivered pair, and Shaverdians was in disbelief at his luck as he tabled his 99 as the pot was pushed Molino's way.

First All-in, First All-out

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Brian Etheridge earned the dubious honor of being the first knockout of the event, just 12 minutes into play.

Etheridge began the action against Amir Abbassi with a raise. He popped Abbassi's three-bet with another raise, before responding to Abbassi's five-bet with an all-in shove. Abbassi made the call.

Brian Etheridge: AKAll in
Amir Abbassi: AA

Etheridge did get some hope on the runout of 4310J, picking up a straight draw on the turn, but the 4 on the river sent him out of the tournament.

Etheridge quickly registered again, using up the one reentry available in this event.

Moses Picks Off the Bluff

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
David Moses
David Moses

Alexander Lee limped under the gun and David Moses made it 2,400 to go in the cutoff. Ilan Cukrowicz called on the button, Gabriel Lapointe flatted in the small blind, and Lee stuck around.

The flop of AQJ checked through to the 2 turn. Lapointe led out for 3,500 and only Moses called.

On the 4 river, Lapointe bet again, this time for 8,000.

"I almost want to fold, man," said Moses, taking some time to think through his decision.

Moses eventually sniffed out the bluff and made the call, tabling AJ for two pair, aces and jacks, besting the 1010 of Lapointe.

With 294 players through 10 minutes of play, there is not yet a full table at the event. Action will surely pick up quickly.

A year ago, more than 1,400 played in Day 1, and the final total was 1,773, as late registration is open through the end of Level 12, which is the second level of Day 2.

No player from last year's top 10 finishers have registered as yet.
