Event #74: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship

Day 4 Started

Who Will Capture the Title in $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship?

Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

In the ever-growing popular game of Pot-Limit Omaha, a record number of 874 entries were recorded in Event #74: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship. A prize pool of $8,128,200 was generated and the lion's share is still up for grabs with just seven players returning to the felt on the fourth and final day of this event, in the hopes of capturing World Series of Poker glory.

Only two of the remaining players have had the great pleasure of receiving a WSOP gold bracelet in their careers. Three-time bracelet winner and considered one of the best players on the planet, Alex Foxen, will have his work cut out for him as he returns to the shortest stack of 2,725,000, good enough for just over ten big blinds. Foxen already has a runner-up finish this summer in the $250,000 Super High Roller where he pocketed over $3 million, but a place in the history books with another WSOP title will be his main driving factor.

Michael Wang is the only other player at the table who has the experience of winning a WSOP title, having done it twice himself. Coming into the final day, Wang will be looking for a much smoother path to the finish compared to the roller coaster that he experienced on Day 3. Wang was down to less than one big blind at one point in the day, and also held the chip lead for a very brief moment en route to bagging up 8,025,000 chips, good enough for third place.

They will have to overcome the start-of-day chip leader Quan Zhou who will be coming back to a healthy chip stack of 16,750,000. The Chinese high-roller also has a final table this summer in the $50,000 High Roller PLO and he will be hoping to better that seventh-place performance.

Rounding out the rest of the field is Sean Rafael, Javier Francort, Michael Zulker, and Melad Marji who will all be searching for their first victory on the WSOP stage. That stage will be set under the bright lights in the Horseshoe Events Center with the action getting underway at 2 p.m. local time. Each player has locked up at least $182,983 to this point but will have their sights set on the first-place prize of $1,394,579.

Zhou Takes the Lead Back from Rafael

Level 31 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante

With two players seeing a board of Q72 and around 650,000 in the middle, Sean Rafael checked from the big blind and called a 450,000 bet from Quan Zhou in the hijack.

Rafael check-called a 1,275,000 bet from Zhou on the A turn before both players checked the A river. Rafael said he had a queen, but Zhou showed KK88 for kings-up to win the hand.

A couple of hands later, Zhou double-barreled out of position in a heads-up pot against Michael Zulker on a board of 3Q36, getting a fold on the turn to take another decent pot, this time without showdown.

Zhou Keeps Climbing, Zulker in the Danger Zone

Level 31 : Blinds 125,000/250,000, 250,000 ante

Javier Francort raised to 875,000 in the hijack and Quan Zhou flat-called in the cutoff. Michael Zulker stared at his cards for at least 30 seconds in the small blind and then decided to fold, leaving himself on the short stack.

The flop came QQ7 and Francort check-called a bet of 875,000 from Zhou. The turn brought the A and both players checked to the 6 on the river. Two more checks and Francort tabled AKKXx for two pair but Zhou flopped trips with QJJ10.

The flop came K95 and Rafael flopped two pair to take the lead. The Q on the turn gave both players straight draws, but it was the Q on the river that improved Zulker to aces-up for the double up.
