Quan Zhou raised it up to 105,000 on the button and was called by Sean Rafael. They headed to the 10♣9♦3♠ flop on which Rafael checked. Zhou motioned to see his stack and Rafael revealed it for a second, Zhou then checked back. There was no betting action on the 4♦ turn either and the 4♠ fell on the river.
Rafael now check-called for 180,000 and mucked when Zhou tabled the K♣K♦8♠3♥.
Scott Bohlman raised to 105,000 in the hijack and Erik Seidel three-bet to 360,000 in the cutoff. Bohlman announced all in and Seidel called off the extra 60,000 chips in front of him.
Erik Seidel: K♣K♦Q♣5♠
Scott Bohlman: A♠A♦J♠7♦
The flop came K♠10♦5♣ and Seidel took the lead with a set of kings. The Q♥ on the turn improved Bohlman to a straight but the 10♥ on the river reversed the roles again as Seidel made a full house to double up.
"That's a made-for-TV runout," David Paredes said after the hand.
An interesting situation occurred one spot shy of a $5,000 pay jump at adjacent tables, wherein Ryan Riess and Matthew Beck were both faced with calling all in for their tournament lives.
At one table, Sean Rafael called from the small blind and then called a raise of 90,000 from Matthew Beck in the big blind.
The flop came 10♣6♦3♥ and Rafael checked to Beck, who announced "Pot" for a bet of 210,000.
The 3♦ fell on the turn and Rafael checked again. Beck bet 270,000 — leaving himself just 5,000 behind and Rafael quickly shoved to put Beck all in.
At the other table, Jeffrey Whittinghill opened to 60,000 from the button. Riess took a few minutes before three-betting to 195,000 from the big blind, leaving around 65,000 behind.
Whittinghill then raised enough to put Riess all-in and Riess went into the tank.
Both Riess and Beck realized the other player was all in and began goading the players at the other table to call the clock. The floor noticed and informed Riess and Beck they had 10 seconds to act before both hands would be declared dead.
Back at Becks table, Beck called all in with one second remaining and a showdown was held.
Matthew Beck: A♦Q♥10♠4♠
Sean Rafael: 10♥10♦9♠8♠
Beck was already drawing dead against Rafael's full house and an irrelevant J♠ completed the board — eliminating Beck one spot shy of a pay jump.
On Riess' table, Riess also called off for his remaining stack to put himself at risk.
Ryan Riess: A♥J♠Q♠Q♣
Jeffrey Whittinghill: Q♥9♠8♥7♠
The 2♦A♦J♦4♥8♦ runout gave Riess two pair, aces and jacks to double through Whittinghill.
Zhengpeng Liu just recently arrived for Day 3 and only had around 150,000 chips remaining after getting blinded out for more than an hour. Despite a quick double up, he quickly found himself at risk again. The action was limped around to Liu in the big blind who made it 240,000. Shrey Maheshwary announced "pot" which got the rest of the table to fold and Liu called off his stack of 380,000.
The flop came 7♥6♣3♣ and Maheshwary spiked one of his two possible sets on the flop. The 9♥ on the turn and the 8♠ on the river changed nothing, sending Liu home shortly after he arrived.
Simon Lofberg was all-in for 710,000 with the Q♠J♦J♣9♠ and up against the K♦Q♦J♠8♥ of Quan Zhou. The A♥10♣7♠J♥6♠ board gave Lofberg a set of jacks but the same card improved Zhou to broadway, sending the Chinese businessman towards the top of the leaderboard.
Igor Holdaiy raised it up from under the gun and Sean Rafael three-bet to 300,000 on his left. Holdaiy just called and they went heads-up to a flop of J♥10♦9♥. Both players checked and the 7♦ landed on the turn.
Holdaiy led out with a bet of 200,000 and Rafael stuck around for the Q♠ on the river. Holdaiy fired out another bet of 600,000 and Rafael went into the tank for nearly two minutes before flicking in a chip to call. Holdaiy turned over A♥A♣5♥2♥ for just a pair of aces while Rafael was excited to turn over A♠Q♥Q♣10♥ for a set of queens.
Stephen Chidwick raised the pot off a shorter stack and then got his chips into the middle against Michael Rocco.
Stephen Chidwick: K♦K♥5♠3♥
Michael Rocco: A♥A♦A♣4♠
The 9♦8♥7♠6♠5♥ board delivered a straight on the board but neither of the players could use that, which ensured that the pair of aces remained ahead of kings to knock out Chidwick.
"You take his chips and his soul, eh?" Dominykas Karmazinas said with a grin on the face.
Three ways to the K♣10♣8♦ flop, Sean Rafael checked out of the small blind and Brant Hale moved all-in for 355,000 in the big blind. Quan Zhou called in the hijack and Rafael folded after brief consideration.
Brant Hale: A♦K♦Q♥10♠
Quan Zhou: J♥10♦8♣7♣
Hale was ahead with the top two pair and the 2♦ turn added the diamond draw on top. However, the 8♠ came on the river and Zhou made a full house to send Hale to the rail with a bad beat story to tell.
