"Ouch, that hurts," Jacob Steele said as he vaulted out of the chair moments after he was eliminated by Alejandro Rodriguez. Both players still had their cards exposed with the K♣Q♠ for Steede and the K♠3♠ for Rodriguez. They had broadway until the A♥Q♣J♠10♠ turn but the 7♠ river gave Rodriguez the winning flush.
With just 56,000 behind, Jason Bullock shoved all in from middle position. Kyle Lorenz, sitting in the cutoff, asked for a count and then made the call. The rest of the table got out of the way, and the cards were turned over.
Jason Bullock: Q♠J♣
Kyle Lorenz: K♠K♣
Bullock needed to connect in a big way to stay alive, but the 8♠7♣4♠ flop offered little hope. The 2♦ on the turn already sealed his fate. Drawing dead going into the river, Bullock could only watch as his tournament came to an end, with Lorenz’s kings holding firm.
Vincent Giuliano opened from the button, but things escalated quickly in the blinds. Michael Allen shoved for around 119,000 from the small blind, only to be met with an almost instant re-shove from Gustavo De Lima in the big blind, who had him covered. Giuliano got out of the way, and the two blinds were left to battle it out.
Michael Allen: A♥3♥
Gustavo De Lima: A♠Q♣
It was a rough spot for Allen, dominated by De Lima’s superior ace. The board ran out 7♠9♠8♦J♠6♠, offering no help, and Allen was sent to the rail while De Lima added more chips to his growing stack.
Arnaud Mattern raised to 11,000 and Nikolay Volper called one seat over on the button. Ryan Jones then jammed the big blind for 71,000 and Mattern reshoved to force out Volper.
Ryan Jones: A♣8♣
Arnaud Mattern: K♦Q♦
The 7♦6♦5♦ flop left Jones drawing dead to runner-runner straight flush, but the 3♣ turn sealed his fate to make the 4♠ river meaningless, as Mattern's flopped flush had already locked up the elimination.
Avery Grande opened to 11,000 from middle position before Ian Ivers jammed for 54,000 from the big blind. Grande confirmed the count before he put a stack into the middle to call.
Ian Ivers: A♣9♦
Avery Grande: K♥10♥
Ivers was ahead with ace-high but the Q♥8♠8♥ flop gave Grande a flush draw. However, it was the 10♦ turn that gave Grande the lead. Ivers could not find an ace on the 3♠ river as his Main Event dream must wait another year.
Simon Burns just recalled a big pot that happened not so long ago, which resulted in the elimination of Matthew Wantman.
John Jankowski had raised to 11,000 preflop and got a call from Wantman, Derek Dufour, and the big blind. They went to a flop of 10♦9♦3x, where once the action got to Jankowski, he bet 60,000. Wantman then shoved, Dufour called, and Jankowski also called, creating a pot of around 500,000.
The players then took it to showdown on the A♦Q♦ runout, which put four to a flush out there.
Wantman flipped 9x9x for a set of nines, Dufour held 10x10x with a set of tens, and Jankowski took it down with AxAx with his set of aces!
