Thung Hits Quads to Knock Out Johnson

Level 15
Marco Johnson
Marco Johnson

Seven Card Stud

Roy Thung: 87 / 8768 / 8
Luke Schwartz: XxXx / KJA folded on fifth street
Marco Johnson: J9 / J396 / 5

Five ways on fourth street, Paul Volpe and Gus Hansen folded when Marco Johnson bet. Roy Thung and Luke Schwartz called with the latter then checking fifth street. Johnson bet again and Thung went into a brief tank before he raised, which forced out Schwartz.

Johnson checked his stack behind carefully and then moved all-in for another 40,000 on top, which Thung called.

"Do you have a straight?" Johnson asked before the cards were flipped over but then discovered that he was actually ahead with jacks and nines against the eights and sevens of Thung. On sixth street, Thung improved to eights full and Johnson failed to improve himself.

While Johnson was sweating his last card, Thung had already flipped over his last card which happened to be the case eight for quads to leave Johnson drawing dead.

Both players checked on fifth, and Yockey then bet on sixth. Mercier called, and they checked down on seventh.

Mercier showed 9x7x3x for 9-8-7-4-3, and Yockey mucked.

Seven Card Stud

Nick Guagenti: XxXx/A328
David Lin: XxXx/A7310 - folded on sixth street

Nick Guagenti completed and called a raise from David Lin. Lin then fired bets on fourth and fifth street, both of which Guagenti called.

Lin bet again on sixth street, but this time Guagenti raised. Lin did not need long before saying goodbye to his hand. He left himself just under two big bets, which he lost in the next few minutes to become the next elimination.

Only One Past WSOP PPC Champ is Still Standing Before Bubble Bursts

Level 15
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

The winner of this year's $50,000 WSOP Poker Players Championship will be a first-time champion, unless Brian Rast wins.

That isn't a prediction, it's a fact. Rast, a three-time winner, was a bet away from elimination in the prestigious mixed games event Tuesday on Day 3, which would have left zero former champions still standing. None of the other former champs reached the money.

Day 3, which began at 1 p.m. PT, started with 39 of the original 108 players remaining. Rast, who won this event in 2011, 2016, and 2023, had the smallest stack with 107,000 chips. For comparison, Kristopher Tong entered the session with the chip lead at 2,428,000. So, it certainly wasn't going to be easy for the Poker Hall of Famer to earn a fourth Poker Players Championship bracelet.

Monnette Falls to Ivey

No-Limit Hold'em

Marco Johnson pushed all-in for 146,000 from an early position and Roy Thung in the big blind was the last player to fold.

One hand later, Phil Ivey raised to 27,000 and then called the shove by John Monnette in the big blind for 123,000.

John Monnette: A7 All in
Phil Ivey: KQ

The J97 flop kept Monnette in the lead but Ivey added four outs with his gutshot. Nothing changed on the 9 turn but the Q river gave Ivey the superior two pair, sending Monnette to the rail near the end of the second level.

Ivey Leaves Johnson on Fumes

Level 14

2-7 Lowball Triple Draw

Phil Ivey raised under the gun. It folded to Marco Johnson in the big blind, who defended and drew two cards. Ivey only needed one card, and he bet after Johnson checked.

Johnson then called, still drawing two cards. Ivey remained pat in response, seeing Johnson check-call another bet.

On the final draw, Johnson drew one card, with Ivey remaining pat. Ivey tossed in a final bet after the draw, and Johnson check-folded to leave himself 60,000 back.

Yockey Takes Three-Quarters From Lonis

Level 14
Bryce Yockey
Bryce Yockey

Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Bryce Yockey raised in the cutoff and was called by Matt Glantz and Jesse Lonis in the blinds.

Yockey bet on the A36 flop and Glantz called. Lonis then raised, and Yockey reraised. "What are you guys doing to me? This is a painful fold," Glantz said as he got out of the way. Lonis, meanwhile, made it four bets, and Yockey called.

Lonis bet again on the Q turn, and Yockey called. Both players then checked down the 4 river.

"This is the best hand I've ever had," Lonis said as he turned over J842. Yockey had 7632 for two pair and the same low to take three-quarters.

"He saved you," Glantz said to Lonis.

"I saved myself," Yockey added.

"You're the one that built that pot by flaming it," Glantz replied.

"Good O8 three-bet bluff," Yockey said.

"He thought he was playing 2-7," tablemate Alex Livingston added.
