Smiljkovic's River Pressure Pays Off

Level 17 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

With around 500,000 already in the pot, both players checked the turn on the board of 101079.

Chris Brewer checked again after the K completed the board, and Daniel Smiljkovic bet 2,000,000, putting Brewer to the test. Brewer took his time, talking through the hand before eventually tossing his cards into the muck and conceding the pot to Smiljkovic.

Michael Macchia: QQ

"That's what I figured," Macchia said as the cards were revealed.

Santhosh Suvarna

Sebastian Gaehl raised to 80,000 from early position and action folded to Santhosh Suvarna in middle position who three-bet all in for 240,000. It came back to Gaehl who snap-called to put Suvarna at risk.

Santhosh Suvarna: 1010 All in
Sebastian Gaehl: KK

Suvarna was in deep trouble and needed some help pretty quickly to stay alive.

Nothing came on the 5JA flop but when the Q peeled off on the turn it took away his set outs but gave him straight outs. The river bricked out with the 3 and Suvarna was sent to the rail in 32nd place as the unfortunate $50,000 High Roller bubble boy.

Ortega Loses Back to Back

Level 16 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Gustavo Ortega
Gustavo Ortega

Hannes Jeschka opened from middle position, and Gustavo Ortega defended from the big blind.

On the 97A flop, Ortega check-called a continuation bet of 50,000 from Jeschka.

The action repeated on the 10 turn, with Jeschka firing 175,000 and Ortega calling again.

Both players checked the 5 river. Ortega showed JJ, but Jeschka had AQ for a pair of aces, taking down the pot.

One hand later, action folded to Timur Margolin on the button, who opened to 80,000. Ortega called from the small blind.

The J105 flop saw Margolin continue for 75,000, and Ortega made the call.

After the 7 turn, Ortega checked, and Margolin fired 460,000, with Ortega calling once again.

The K river completed the board. Ortega checked for a third time, and Margolin bet 175,000. Ortega called, but his opponent revealed K2 for a rivered pair of kings, which was enough to win the pot and leave Ortega shaking his head.
