Anton Astapau Doing Work

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

On a {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Clubs} flop, the player in the small blind checked, and so did Anton Astapau in early position. Felipe Ramos, in the cutoff, bet 2,200. His opponents both called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs}. The player in the small blind checked. This time, Astapau bet 6,500. Ramos and the small blind both stuck around with calls.

The river was the {7-Diamonds}, and the small blind checked again. Astapau threw in a bet of 14,000. Ramos went into the tank for a couple of minutes before calling. The player in the small blind let it go.

Astapau showed {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for the nut flush, and Ramos mucked.

The player under the gun limped, the next player limped, and Jason Mercier raised to 2,650 on the button. The blinds folded, and the first limper went all in. The next limper folded, and Mercier called for his remaining stack.

Mercier: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} {8-Spades} {8-Clubs}, and Mercier doubled up with two pair, queens and eights.

Brian Yoon
Brian Yoon

The player under the gun raised to 1,300, and the cutoff called. Brian Yoon called on the button, and the remaining players folded.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, and the preflop raiser continued for 1,500. The cutoff raised to 4,000, and Yoon called. The next player folded, and it was heads-up. The turn was the {10-Clubs}, and Yoon's opponent bet 7,000. Yoon called again, and they both checked the {3-Spades} river.

His opponent showed {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a pair of threes, and Yoon's {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for top pair was good.

Some Updated Counts

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

From a Pair to a Straight

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jon Turner raised to 900 in early position. Action folded around to the big blind, who defended.

The flop was {10-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and that was checked through the {8-Clubs} turn. The player in the big blind led for 1,100, and Turner stuck around with a call. The river was the {k-Hearts}, and the player in the big blind bet 2,500. Turner called again.

Turner tabled {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for a straight next to his opponent {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

Eddy Sabat Eliminated, Mike Scarborough Chipping Up

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Eddy Sabat (from a previous event)
Eddy Sabat (from a previous event)

Mike Scarborough raised to 1,000 in middle position, and Eddy Sabat three-bet to 3,200 in the cutoff. The button and blinds folded, and Scarborough called.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, and Scarborough checked. Sabat bet 2,900, and after a long pause, Scarborough put forward 25,000 chips, enough to put Sabat to an all-in decision.

Sabat called, and they showed down.

Scarborough: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Sabat: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}

Sabat's aces were ahead, but Scarborough had a pair and a gutshot straight draw.

The {8-Clubs} turn gave Scarborough the straight, and the {J-Diamonds} river was insignificant.

Sabat, who just took fourth place in Event #29 $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em last night for $143,148, will not be making a deep run in this one.

Deuces Never Loses

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

The player under the gun opened to 900. It was folded to Kyle Julius, on the button, who called, as did the small blind and Niall Farrell in the big blind.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and was checked around to Julius, who bet 1,300. Farrell was the only caller. The turn was the {q-Clubs}, and Farrell checked. Julius bet 2,400, and once again, Farrell called. The {10-Clubs} river completed the board, and Farrell checked for a third time. Julius checked back.

Farrell tabled {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a set of deuces. Julius mucked, and a player at the table told Farrell, ''I never win with deuces. How do you do it, bro?!'' Farrell just smiled.
