Anthony Macnamara Cashes His First World Series of Poker Event Ever

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Stud

Chris Tryba called us over to his table to share the story of Anthony Macnamara who was playing in his first World Series of Poker event ever. Macnamara was able to survive through the bubble with just one ante left and he was all in and at risk immediately after the bubble broke.

"I flew all the way from Australia for this," Macnamara said excitedly as he waited for the action.

"I wish I cashed in my first event ever," Tryba said. "I might've quit!"

Macnamara was all in and at risk with a {6-Clubs} up. A few seats over, Matheus Mendes raised and everyone else folded. The boards rolled out as follows:

Macnamara: {K-Hearts}{7-Clubs} / {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} / {A-Clubs}
Mendes: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} / {J-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} / {3-Hearts}

Mendes made two pair and that would do it for Macnamara. He hit the rail, but not without collecting $4,523 for his first World Series of Poker cash.

Tryba Rivered by Cantu to Bust

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Stud

Chris Tryba was all in from the bring-in with the {5-Diamonds}. Bradley Snider completed in the next seat with a {j-Diamonds}, and Brandon Cantu called with the {q-Clubs}. Snider bet when he picked up the {a-Diamonds} but folded to Cantu's raise.

Tryba: {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}/{5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Snider: {x-}{x-}/{j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} (folded on fourth street)
Cantu: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}/{q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

"Oh, I have jacks!" Tryba exclaimed.

He stayed ahead as he got {k-Spades}{10-Clubs} while Cantu got {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

"Do I have to improve?" he asked.

He did, as Cantu flipped the {4-Clubs} over for eights up. Tryba peeled a useless {2-Clubs} and headed to payouts.

Deeb Flops Broadway and Improves

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Hold'em

We caught up with Shaun Deeb involved in a pot with Justin Vold with over 30,000 in the middle. The board read {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Spades} and, from under the gun, Shaun Deeb put out a bet. Vold called quickly. Deeb turned up his {Q-Spades}{J-Spades} for a flopped Broadway that improved to a flush and Vold mucked.

With that, Deeb scooped the pot and moved up the chip counts.

Parker and Weinberger Eliminated

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Phil Hui
Phil Hui

Stud Hi-Lo

Joseph Weinberger was already all in when we got to his table, with three players battling in a side pot. Brock Parker bet fifth street with three low spades and got calls from Phil Hui and Hani Awad.

Weinberger: {x-}{x-}/{k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Parker: {x-}{x-}/{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Hui: {x-}{x-}/{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Awad: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Everyone checked sixth with Parker saving his last 1,500. He put that in on the river, though, and neither Hui nor Awad went anywhere. Awad announced aces up and Parker softly punched the table before showing kings up. Hui had the low with {9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs} while Weinberger had the other two kings.

Hellmuth Into Orbit

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Razz

Hellmuth: {x-}{x-} / {4-}{k-}{6-}{6-} / {x-}
Davidow: {x-}{x-} / {4-}{q-}{5-}{10-} / {x-}

With over 40,000 in the pot already, we caught up to Phil Hellmuth and Matthew Davidow on sixth street. Both players checked sixth, then checked again on seventh.

"Ten-six," Hellmuth said. Davidow just shook his head, implying that his hand was no good. Davidow turned up {A-}{7-}{3-} and Hellmuth leaped up from his chair.

He flipped over {5-}{3-} and slapped his {10-} against his hand several times.

"How many times are they going to do it to me," Hellmuth said walking away from the table.

While the dealer was holding action, Davidow got a little impatient.

"Can we just move it along?" He asked. "I don't care if he's dancing over there, but you can be doing stuff in the meantime."

Hellmuth finally came back to the table and sat down. "What did you say?" he asked.

"Oh nothing," Davidow responded. "I mean, I know you have this act and it's a part of what you sell, but I was just asking the dealer if they could move along to the next hand. You can keep dancing if you want."

Hellmuth, still a little steamed, shook it off and started talking about the hand and the way it played out instead.

Good Read, Bad Result for The Mouth

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Razz

We found Mike Matusow staring at {5-}{q-}{7-} against Matthew Smith who had a much prettier {6-}{4-}{3-} board and had bet. Matusow thought awhile and called but things only got worse from there.

Matusow: {x-}{x-}/{5-}{q-}{7-}{7-}
Smith: {x-}{x-}/{6-}{4-}{3-}{8-}

Matusow paired but called another bet, and then one more on the end. Smith rolled {a-}{2-}{4-} for a six-low, and Matusow asked if the four paired him.

"It paired me," Smith confirmed.

Matusow showed {6-}{4-}{2-} for a seven-low and mucked.

Nguyen Bluffs Matusow

Level 16 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Razz

For the last half hour or so, Mike Matusow has been dancing and singing about wanting to be back on a short stack, claiming that he plays better that way.

"On the nub again," he sang across the Amazon room. "Just can't wait to get back on the nub again."

Well, Scotty Nguyen was finally able to grant Matusow his wish after bluffing Matusow out of a big razz pot.

Nguyen: {x-}{x-} / {8-}{5-}{5-}{A-}
Matusow: {x-}{x-} / {2-}{j-}{j-}{2-} — Folded

Nguyen bet on fourth street and Matusow called.

"Come on, Mikey baby, you sure you want a piece of this?" Nguyen asked.

On fifth, Nguyen bet again and Matusow thought for a while, then called.

"I'm gonna bet in the dark, baby," Scotty said, betting before seeing his card. His bet was enough to put Matusow all in. "Uh oh, baby. I think I made a full house."

Matusow, unfortunately, had two pairs on the board too. He thought for a long while, then folded his hand. Nguyen showed the {A-}, showing that he had two pairs as well.

But Matusow may have been right about the short stack being better for him because on the next hand he moved all in and tripled up when he made a low and had his opponent drawing dead on sixth street.
