Chop a Pot, Get a Free Doyle Anecdote

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Mercier: {x-}{x-} / {q-Spades}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{q-Hearts} / {x-}
Harman: {x-}{x-} / {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} / {x-}

Jason Mercier check-called on every street from fourth to sixth, although he put on a very good show of seeming unimpressed about the matter. On seventh street, he check-raised, and Jen Harman called. Mercier showed {q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for a full house, and Harman had the low with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

As the dealer was cutting out the chips to chop the pot, Harman pointed out that one stack was higher than the other. This prompted an anecdote involving the legendary Doyle Brunson.

"Once, Doyle was chopping a pot and he said to the dealer, 'Are you sure those stacks are right?'

"And the dealer said, 'Yeah, I'm sure.'

"And Doyle went, 'But are you sure?'

"And the dealer repeated, 'Yeah I'm sure!'

"And Doyle went, 'Well, in that case, I'll have that one,' and pointed towards the stack with more chips in it!"
