Day 2 of Event #54 in the Books; Scott Clements Leads

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Scott Clements
Scott Clements

On Thursday, 186 players took chips out of the bag at the start of Day 2 of Event #54: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, but only 39 are still standing at the conclusion of play, and while all remaining players are guaranteed to cash for at least $17,420, each has their sights set on WSOP gold and the top prize of $938,732.

Leading the way is two-time bracelet winner Scott Clements with 1,724,000 chips, and close behind are Michail Karapanos (1,133,000), former WSOP Player of the Year Ben Lamb (1,090,000), Ryan Miller (1,011,000), John Racener, (987,000) Cyrus Parton (931,000). Following at a somewhat greater distance are Aleksei Altshuller (794,000), Johnny Lodden (672,000), Jason DeWitt (657,000), Miltiadis Kyriakides (542,000) and Mike Gorodinsky (228,000).

Several familiar faces that took to the felt at the start of play on Day 2 but were gone before the money include Daniel DiPasquale, Anthony Zinno, Tony Cousineau, David "ODB" Baker, Leif Force, Isaac Baron, Christian Harder.

The money bubble was reached during the level following the dinner break and it took nearly 40 minutes for it to burst with the elimination of Patrick Mahoney. Thereafter, Jarred Graham made his exit in fairly short order, followed by several other well-known players, including Toby Lewis, Ian O'Hara, Alberto Fonseca, and Scott Davies. Shortly before the end of the night, defending champion Brandon Shack-Harris was also eliminated, meeting his end in a run-in with Clements.

The remainder of the field will return at noon on Friday and they are scheduled to play down to a winner. However, given the present size of the field, it is probable that play will continue for a fourth day on Saturday, July 1st 2017. Be sure to check back here for all the updates in this event and throughout the 2017 World Series of Poker from the PokerNews live reporting team.

Defending Champion Brandon Shack-Harris Eliminated by Scott Clements

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante
Brandon Shack-Harris
Brandon Shack-Harris

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Scott Clements has just knocked out last year's $10,000 PLO Champion and two-time bracelet winner Brandon Shack-Harris in a blind on blind hand.

Shack-Harris was in the small blind and limped in for 12,000. Scott Clements peeked down at his cards and reached back for some chips, firing out a bet of 36,000. Harris broke down his stack and called with 49,000 behind.

The flop was {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Shack-Harris immediately pushed in the rest of his stack. Clements pondered for a moment and then grabbed some chips and called.

Shack-Harris tabled {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for a pair of nines with some back-door options. Clements showed {q-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for over-cards to Shak-Harris's pair, a couple of gut-shot straight draws and a back-door flush draw.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} changing nothing and the river was the {q-Hearts} giving Clements a pair of queens to take down the hand.

Racener Continues to Race up the Leaderboard

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
John Racener
John Racener

Norbert Szecsi was in middle position and raised to 23,000. Benjamin Eillers was in late position and called, and John Racener defended his big blind.

The flop was {k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, and Racener checked. Szecsi bet 45,000, and Eillers folded. Racener reached back for a stack of chips and verbalized, "Pot." Szecsi snap-mucked his hand, and Racener continued his upward surge.

Madsen Flops Straight and Gets Full Double

Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen

Joining the action on the {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop, Jeff Madsen bet 44,000, and Michael Kamran called. On the {2-Hearts} turn, Madsen bet the pot for 178,000 with 43,000 behind, and Kamran called. Kamran also called the shove of Madsen on the {6-Clubs} river.

Madsen turned over {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts}, and Kamran tapped the table with the words, "That's good." Since it was an all-in showdown, he was obliged to show his cards and very briefly flashed {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Clubs}{X-} for two pair.

Patrick Mahoney Bubbles the Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Championship

Andjelko Andrejevic Bursts the Bubble
Andjelko Andrejevic Bursts the Bubble

Patrick Mahoney was forced all in for his last 4,000 in the big blind, and John Racener limped in from early position. Andjelko Andrejevic called the 8,000 from the small blind, and the two remaining players checked the {9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop and the {3-Hearts} turn. On the {5-Hearts} river, Andrejevic bet 15,000, and Racener folded.

"Are you bluffing?" Mahoney asked.

Andrejevic said, "I can't say," as other tables were still in action.

"Shit," Mahoney replied. Another player from a table nearby asked him, and Mahoney turned around and said, "I am drawing thin. I haven't even looked at my cards yet."

Once all other tables were finished, Andrejevic rolled over {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for a queen-high flush. Mahoney's {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{9-Spades} were exposed, and he exited the tournament area as last player without anything to show for his work.

Clements With a Big Win

Scott Clements

With about 150,000 in the pot and the board reading {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}, Alex Manzano was all in under the gun for roughly 140,000. Scott Clements was also all in from late position, having Manzano covered. Two other players folded on the flop, leaving the action heads-up.

Scott Clements: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Alex Manzano: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Clements was behind but had the nut flush draw and some straight outs to go along with two-pair outs. Manzano was open-ended on the top side and leading with his aces. The turn was the {q-Hearts}, not changing anything, but the {3-Clubs} on the river gave Clements two pair and a huge pot to add to his stack, while simultaneously knocking out one of Chile's best poker players.

Chidwick Doubles Through Vayo

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

Loren Klein raised to 12,000 from under the gun, and Gordon Vayo called in the cutoff, as did Stephen Chidwick in the big blind.

On the {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop, Chidwick and Klein checked, and Vayo bet 21,000. Chidwick moved all in for just less than the size of the pot, and Klein folded. Vayo called, and had Chidwick covered.

Stephen Chidwick: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Gordon Vayo: {J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

The {3-Diamonds} on the turn improved Chidwick to a flush, and he needed to dodge any ten or eight to double. The blank {7-Hearts} river completed the board, and Chidwick doubled for 89,500.

Dan Shak Bides His Time

Dan Shak raised from the cutoff to 6,500. Henri Koivisto three-bet to 25,000 from the button. The blinds folded and eventually so did Shak, but not before showing {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Koivisto flashed him the {10-Spades}.

"Oh no, the {10-Spades}," said tablemate Scott Baumstein, "He blocked your straight with the seven-nine!"

"I don't like putting 50,000 in with kings," said Shak, referring to Koivisto's short stack before the start of the hand. "At least not yet!"

The table laughed.

"Later," continued Shak, "Desperation time. Well, it's not desperation time for anybody yet."
