Tran Times Almost All the Way Through; Chris Johnson Busts

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

We found Henry Tran tanking with his tournament life at risk if he called for about 620,000. The board had come {4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. A player in the cutoff on his left had put him all in with about 700,000 already in the pot. Tran took a few minutes to think, and his opponent called a clock. With 10 seconds remaining in his countdown, Tran flicked the dealer his cards.

At the neighboring table, Chris Johnson lost the remainder of his chips to Scott Stewart.

Tieu the River!

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Le Tieu moved all-in on a {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} board and was put at risk by Zo Karim.

Tieu: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Karim: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

Karim was ahead but Tieu had a slew of outs. The {4-Spades} on the turn changed nothing but the {9-Clubs} on the river gave Tieu a better pair and he scored the double up.

Hallaert's Stack Keeps Growing

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Kenny Hallaert
Kenny Hallaert

There was a raise to 33,000 from middle position and Kenny Hallaert called from the hijack. The button re-raised to 90,000 and the initial laid his hand down. Hallaert called to go heads-up to the flop of {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}.

Hallaert checked the flop and his opponent bet 160,000. Hallaert proceeded to raise all-in, having his opponent covered. His opponent made the call for his remaining 650,000 and the cards were tabled. Hallaert showed {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and his opponent held a flush draw with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

The action was stopped for the TV crews to start filming, and when it was resumed, the {6-Clubs} fell on the turn and the {5-Spades} on the river. Hallaert held on to eliminate his opponent and boost himself to one of the largest stacks in the room.

Ihar Soika Unlucky Not to Bust Two Players

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Ihar Soika during his Monster Stack final table earlier this summer
Ihar Soika during his Monster Stack final table earlier this summer

Ihar Soika raised to 45,000 and Dilovan Hussein three-bet all in for 284,000. It folded to Jian Chen on the button who moved all in over the top for 553,000. Soika called putting two players at risk.

Soika: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Hussein: {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Chen: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

"Well that's not good," said Chen, seeing the Queen of Hussein. The flop came {3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. Chen let out a cheer when the {q-Hearts} came on the turn, and Hussein yet out an even louder one and clapped his hands together when the {9-Spades} came on the river.

Hussein tripled up to just under 900,000, with Chen remaining about level. Soika took a rather hefty knock to his stack but still sits on around 1,000,000.

Sofia Lovgren Hits the Rail

Sofia Lovgren
Sofia Lovgren

We got to the table as Sofia Lovgren was moving all in for 700,000 on the button. She was facing a three-bet from Antoine Saout from early position and the initial raiser folded, and Saout quickly called.

Lovgren was at risk and well behind with {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, up against Saout's {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

The flop came {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Saout paired his queen, while Lovgren picked up a straight draw. The turn was the {6-Hearts} and the river was the {5-Clubs}, sending Lovgren to the rail.

Charlie Carrel Bluffs Both

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Charlie Carrel was first to act and opened for 45,000. The cutoff, Kenny Hallaert on the button, and the player in the small blind all called.

Action checked to Hallaert on the button on the flop of {6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. The Belgian player bet 95,000 and the small blind and Carrel both called, the cutoff folded.

All three of them checked the {3-Hearts} on the turn and the {4-Hearts} completed the board. The small blind checked and Carrel tanked for some time before betting 420,000. Hallaert thought about it for some time, studying both his opponents' stacks, but folded. The small blind folded as well.

Charlie Carrel showed a big smile tabling {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. The small blind admitted having had {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, Hallaert didn't reveal anything.

Mickey Craft Almost Does It Again

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Mikey Craft called Nicolas Fountotos' all in with {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Fountotos had {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}.

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and Fountotos doubled up. Craft made two pair on the river and for a second everyone thought Craft had come from behind to win again, but the {j-Hearts} completed the flush for Fountotos.
