Jack Effel Pulls Lisandro Off the Table

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jeff Lisandro
Jeff Lisandro

After eliminating two opponents in quick succession, Jeff Lisandro got into a little spat with the staff about the dealer being unsure about Lisandro's action and Lisandro told the dealer how he felt about the inquiry.

With Lisandro seemingly already on edge, World Series of Poker VP and Tournament Director, Jack Effel asked to speak to Lisandro off the table about a separate issue. Lisandro immediately was unhappy with the request and made sure Effel was well aware.

Effel told Lisandro that the video production team was missing some of Lisandro's cards and Effel asked Lisandro to make sure he was displaying his cards properly.

This seemed to set Lisandro off, saying he was showing his cards and as Lisandro moved back to the table, his voice started to rise, "I'm showing my cards, leave me alone!" Lisandro yelled at Effel.

"Come over here," Effel demanded. "You're on penalty," Effel stated as Lisandro walked away from the table again. "You are completely worked up. I'm trying to get you to calm down."

Lisandro continued to argue his case and asked Effel to tell the video production team what he thought of them.

"Listen to me. You are taking this too far," Effel said trying to get Lisandro off the edge.

"You are aggravating me," Lisandro replied.

"You are aggravating yourself," Effel said as he let Lisandro go back to the table. "We're going to stop it and not talk about this anymore."

Lisandro has since returned to the table and seems to have calmed down a bit.

Updated Chip Counts from Brasilia

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Here are some of the latest chip counts. Kathy Liebert came into the day short with just 90,000, and has recently doubled up.

She held {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} against her opponent's {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

"Paint!" said one of her tablemates before the flop came {q-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, "There you go!" he continued.

The turn was the {q-Hearts}, with Liebert sitting back down as the {j-Diamonds} came on the river.

2001 Main Event Champ Carlos Mortensen Eliminated

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Carlos Mortensen
Carlos Mortensen

Carlos Mortensen came into Day 4 very short but did manage to pick up a double up. A couple hands later though, Mortensen put himself at risk again.

Mortensen moved all in with {q-Clubs}{3-Spades} and was called by a player with {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

Mortensen nailed the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop, making trip queens but poker is cruel and running hearts with the {5-Hearts} on the turn and {k-Hearts} on the river gave his opponent a flush and sent Mortensen to the payout desk.

The board read {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades} and the action was checked to Natasha Mercier who bet 33,000. Her opponent, David Fong, called from the big blind and the {k-Spades} completed the board.

Fong checked again and Mercier shoved all-in for her remaining 166,000. Fong went into the tank for a couple minutes but eventually found a call. Mercier showed {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and Fong tabled {7-}{7-} to eliminate Mercier.

Max Silver and Juicy Li were heads up on the river. The board read {q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Silver checked to Li.

There was over 300,000 in the pot at this point and Li bet 203,000. Silver took about a minute and then called with {a-}{q-}, which was good against the {a-}{k-} shown by Li.

Ryan Goindoo Busts One on the River

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Ryan Goindoo raised to 16,000 from middle position and Alex Conklin called on the button. The player in the big blind moved all in for 116,000 and Goindoo moved all in over the top, clearly putting Conklin to the test for the last of his chips. Conklin folded.

The big blind was at risk with {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}, well ahead of Goindoo's {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and the big blind was still ahead with two jacks. The turn was the {6-Clubs} and Goindoo pulled back some of the chips he put in the middle, but kept a stack out front to match his opponent's all-in bet. The river was the {a-Spades} and Goindoo pulled his bet right back, making a pair of aces to send his opponent to the rail.
