Messina Shows the Bluff

Level 31 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante
Valentin Messina
Valentin Messina

Valentin Messina raised to 450,000 on the button, and Michael Sklenicka defended the big blind. The Czech player check-called 500,000 on the {3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop, and both players checked the {q-Spades} turn. Sklenicka bet 800,000 when the {9-Hearts} river hit. Messina thought awhile and then slid in 3.8 million.

Sklenicka drew a deep breath and went into the tank as the others headed for break. "Nines?" he asked.

After about three minutes of thought, he spoke up again. "I have the worst value hand," he said, mucking.

Messina showed the bluff, slapping {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds} down on the felt.

Mackoff Folds to Two Jams

Level 31 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante

Valentin Messina raised to 500,000 two hands in a row. The first hand saw him scoop the blinds and antes, while Michael Sklenicka three-bet the second hand to 1,300,000 on the button. Messina folded and dropped below 28 million in chips.

Sklenicka raised the next hand to 450,000 from the cutoff, and Alexandre Reard called in the small blind. The {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop drew a check from Reard, and Sklenicka asked, "You have five [million] behind?" which Reard comfirmed. Sklenicka checked behind and did so again on the {K-Hearts} turn. Reard's bet of 975,000 on the {3-Spades} river claimed the pot.

Then, Benjamin Pollak limped the small blind, and Jonas Mackoff raised to 800,000 in the big blind. Pollak moved all in, and Mackoff quickly folded.

The very next hand, Reard made it 450,000 to go from the cutoff, and Mackoff three-bet to 950,000 in the small blind. Back on Reard, he four-bet all in, and Mackoff folded to the second shove in a row.

John Hesp raised to 450,000 from under the gun, Michael Ruane called from the next seat over, and Ben Lamb called from the big blind.

Mackoff Takes Two Rounds from Messina

Level 31 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante

Jonas Mackoff completed the blind and saw a {5-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop for the minimum against Valentin Messina. Mackoff check-called 400,000 on the flop and 950,000 more on the {5-Spades} turn. He checked the {4-Spades} river, and Messina checked back but couldn't beat {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}.

A bit after that, Mackoff opened in the cutoff for 450,000 and got action from Messina on the button. They both checked the {q-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} flop, and Mackoff bet 800,000 on the {k-Hearts} turn. Messina called and then faced another barrel of 1.8 million on the {5-Diamonds} river. He tanked awhile and folded, showing the {a-Diamonds}.
