Woodley Doubles Up

Enough chips to give her some lee-way.
Enough chips to give her some lee-way.
With the board reading {A-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {7-Spades}, Ian Woodley raises all in and Linda Lee makes the call showing {A-Spades} {9-Hearts} which is behind to Woodley's {A-Hearts} {6-Spades}. The turn is the {8-Hearts} giving Lee a lot of extra outs, but the river is the {2-Diamonds} and Woodley wins a pot worth about 70,000.

Scrabbling for the Right Thing to Do

'Scrabbleman' Xavier Laszcz is causing controversy, not at the table, but in the press room where he has triggered a conflict of views between various (well, two) members of the PokerNews team.

Whilst discussing the potential of Xavier Lasxcz being poker's highest scoring Scrabble player with a quite splendid 42 points (strictly no middle names allowed), it was duly brought to our attention that there was only one zed in Scrabble. It was then unearthed that one could be playing the Super Scrabble version of the game, which does indeed allow two zeds to hit the board simultaneously.

As such, we are currently in a quandary and unsure as to whether it would be morally correct to award him the esteemed title of Scrabbleman.

Oh My Akenhead

James Akenhead is eliminated by chip monster Jesper Hougaard. Akenhead raised preflop, called by Hougaard.

Flop: {7-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {3-Spades} Check to Hougaard who bet 10,000. Back to Akenhead who instantly moved all in for around 30,000 - and was just as instantly called. Shaking his head (that can never be a good sign) they turned their hands over:

Akenhead: {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs}
Hougaard: {A-Spades} {A-Hearts}

The {9-Hearts} {6-Clubs} turn and river didn't help and Akenhead exited stage right, yanking an iPod earphone out, having fallen into Hougaard's trap.

Short Stacks A-Shoving

Limping into the money.
Limping into the money.
Surinder Sunar was quickly knocked out for his last few chips having made it past the bubble. His remaining chips going in with {A-?} {7-?} but failing to hit against Arkadi Kilman's {4-?} {4-?}.

Demis Hassabis, however, has been much more fortunate. Making a button push with {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, he was quickly called by Matt Novak's {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} but won out on a {7-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {9-Spades} {8-Spades} {7-Spades} board to put him back over 20,000.
