Romanello Calls, Mucks

Roberto Romanello took his time to call on the river in a hand versus Georges Lenne, almost as of he knew he was beat.

The former was in early position and continued for 800 on an {a-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop. Lenne was in the small blind and check-called before he led for 2,000 and 4,500 on the {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} turn and river.

The Welshman made the calls and mucked upon seeing Lenne's {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a straight.

Lichtenberger Off to a Good Start

We caught the action with 18,100 in the pot and a board reading {d}{5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Joann Georges Lenne had just bet 7,000 from the small blind and action was on Andrew Lichtenberger on the button.

The man known as "Lucky Chewy" thought for a solid minute before silently tossing in a call, and Lenne immediately muck his cards. A winner must be shown to lay claim to a pot, so Lichtenberger tabled the winning {A-Spades}{K-Spades}.

Updated Player of the Year Standings

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Antonio Esfandiari's win in Event #2: €1,100 NLHE yesterday has shaken up the 2012 World Series of Poker Player of the Year race. The victory allowed him to leapfrog John Monnette and Phil Ivey into the lead by over 114 points; however, Greg Merson, who currently sits in seventh place with 481.13 points, is a member of the October Nine. If he finishes in fourth place or better when the Main Event final recommences later this month, he will take over the lead.

Don't Mess With Thorel

Jean Noel Thorel may come across as an old-school French poker player, but he is anything but. The multi-millionaire business does like to call down a lot, that's not all he is capable of though. At EPT Deuville a couple of season's ago he was witnessed six-bet bluffing pre flop against none other than Viktor Blom.

Thorel, Oliver Speidel, Mike McDonald and one other player all saw a limped flop of {4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}.

McDonald led for 475 from the big blind and was called by Thorel in early position before Speidel check-raised to 1,300 from the small blind (the fourth player folded from the cut-off). McDonald folded and Thorel called.

No more chips made it into the middle as the two remaining players checked the {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} turn and river down. Speidel, the Aussie Millions Main Event Champ from this year, opened {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for queen high and lost out to the {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} of his opponent.

Esfandiari Wants More Quality Time with Grinder

The defending champ, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, who finished third in Event #3: €5,300 Pot-Limit Omaha about an hour ago, and has taken his seat to the immediate left of Antonio Esfandiari.

The two have been chatting back and forth while the rest of the table has listened with great interest. The latest tale told involved a bet between "The Magician" and "The Grinder" as to who could do the most pushups in one minute. "Yeah, and it's been cancelled two time," Mizrachi chimed.

"I never cancelled," Esfandiari retorted. Mizrachi admitted that it wasn't cancelled, but that it's been delayed on more than one occasion for both players to prepare. Originally it was supposed to be at the WSOP this summer, but Esfandiari struck it big in the Big One for One Drop, so he had other things on his plate. They were going to try again during the Main Event, but that fell through as well.

"Let's go right now," Esfandiari offered.

The Grinder smiled and simply replied, "We have to change dates, I've been smoking." That brought a round of laughter from the table.

"The only way to get quality time with the Grinder it to sit next to him in a tournament," Esfandiari concluded.
