Karr Wafts; Smith Gets Richer

A raising war on a {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop saw McLean Kar get his stack of 11,500 all in against Dan Smith.

Showdown
Karr: {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{q-Spades}
Smith: {K-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Karr held both straight and flush draws, but the latter was no good as Smith had bigger clubs to go with his pocket pair of kings. Both the {2-Hearts} turn and {4-Spades} river proved uninteresting, and Smith's kings claimed the pot. "Good hand, Dan," Karr said before collecting his things and exiting the tournament area.

Mercier & Schwartz Fall

Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Petteri Kalenius moved all in on a board reading {10-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{6-Spades}{A-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Jason Mercier called off his remaining 6,300. Kalenius confidently rolled over {Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} for the second-nut flush, and despite the dealers instructions to turn over his hand because it was an all-in situation, Mercier mucked his hand.

"You can turn them over if you want," Mercier said as he grabbed his bag and made a hasty exit from the tournament area. At the same time, Noah Schwartz was eliminated over at Table 8.

Sleepy Goyens Gets Away With Costly Mistake

David Benyamine showed compassion
David Benyamine showed compassion

David Benyamine has been chirpy and quite active over on Table 9. He just raised under the gun to 900 and two players called. Dries Goyens was in the small blind and three-bet to 4,500. Dan Shak folded his big blind, and the action was back on Benyamine.

Without hesitation Benyamine threw in a grey chip worth 5,000, and the two callers folded. Goyens thought he had won the hand, and threw his cards towards the muck.

The players at the table quickly reminded him Benyamine hadn't folded, and Goyens tried to retrieve his cards. One of Goyens' cards had hit the muck, and the dealer put her hands over the cards in order to keep them in place. The floor was called over.

"I hate this," Benyamine sighed as he felt bad for Goyens who had made an honest mistake.

All the other players at the table were very vocal about Goyens cards all being retrievable, and eventually he got all four back.

The flop brought out {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and Benyamine threw his cards into the muck right away. After a few seconds of confusion Goyens received the pot, and he opted to show the {7-Spades}. Jason Mercier started laughing, and Benyamine could not keep a straight face either.

"I'm sorry," Goyens said abou the situation. "I should be sleeping more."

"It's alright, the only mistake you made was showing the seven," Benyamine replied with a smile after which he asked what Goyens had.

"I had a rundown, {7-}{8-}{9-}{10-}" Goyens said, and that had Benyamine smiling again. He later admitted to having had {8-}{9-}{10-}{J-}, and Goyens was drawing very slim pre flop. Things turned out differently, and Goyens took down the pot in a situation where he probably would've lost a very big percentage of the time due to his hand hitting the muck.

Monster Three-Way Pot Results in Eames Doubling Through Negreanu; Palumbo Eliminated

We saw a crowd gathering around Table 16 and made our way over to see a big three-way all-in pot. We didn't catch the betting, but we do know that both Rocco Palumbo and John Eames were all in and covered by Daniel Negreanu on a {10-Spades}{K-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop. Palumbo was the short stack, while Eames was in for 17,000.

Showdown
Palumbo: {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{A-Spades}{4-Spades}
Negreanu: {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Eames: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

Palumbo was drawing to the nut flush, Negreanu held top two, but Eames was out in front with top set. Neither the {4-Diamonds} turn nor {9-Hearts} river changed a thing and Eames doubled through Negreanu while simultaneously eliminating Palumbo.

Joentausta vs. Negreanu

Action folded around to Daniel Negreanu on the button and he min-raised to 1,200. Aku Joentausta defended from the big blind and then check-called a bet of 1,500 on the {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop. Both players proceeded to check the {2-Hearts} turn, and then Joentausta checked for a third time on the {2-Spades} river. Negreanu returned to betting, this time 2,800, and it was enough to take down the pot as Joentausta sent his cards to the muck.

Smith Takes Another Hit

Mike "Timex" McDonald got his last 15,100 in on a board reading {2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and was at risk against Dan Smith, who said he misread his cards and wished he hadn't made the call.

Showdown
Smith: {J-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
McDonald: {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The {K-Clubs} peeled off on the river and a solemn-looking Smith sent over about half his chips to McDonald.
