Event #6: €1,650 Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha

Day 1 Started

Are You Ready for Some High-Flying Six-Handed PLO Action?

Philippe Boucher won this very event last year.
Philippe Boucher won this very event last year.

The sixth annual World Series of Poker Europe continues today at the Casino Barrière in Cannes with the sixth of seven bracelet events, Event #6: €1,650 Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha. There's already been one PLO event and one six-handed event here at the WSOP Europe, but this marks the first time this year the two variations have been combined.

In 2011, six-handed PLO was introduced to the schedule and proved to be quite popular as 339 players took to the felt to battle it out for a €124,584 first-place prize. Many players put themselves into position for the title with deep runs including Roberto Romanello (31st-€2,616), Carlos Mortensen (€3,339), Ludovic Lacay (20th-€4,360), Antony Lellouche (12th-€7,629), Bryan Devonshire (8th-€13,948) and Jared Solomon (5th-€26,676), but it was Quebecer Philippe Boucher who defeated Michel Dattani in heads-up play to walk away the victor.

Today's event is expected to draw quite the stacked field, and we already know players like Justin Bonomo, Daniel Negreanu and Kevin MacPhee will be in action.

We'll kick things off in a little under in hour, and the plan for the day is to play eight levels. Join us then as we bring you all the high-octane action from the Event #6 floor at the elegant Majestic Barrière.

Up to 148

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

So far there are 148 players registered, and we expect many more to show up for this event. About 15 minutes ago the clock said 99, and with about five hours of late registration there are probably a lot of players still to show up.

Negreanu & Esfandiari Take Center Stage

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Table 13 is situated right in the middle of the tournament floor, and while it's not a feature table per se, it is pretty stacked as Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari are both seated there. We're barely 15 minutes into action and already the boisterous duo are chatting it up and entertaining the other players. Also seated at that table is Matt Keikoan.

Small One for Kassela

Sean Jazayeri opened for 75 under the gun and received calls from the player in the cutoff and Frank Kassela in the small blind. When the flop fell {4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, action checked to the cutoff and he bet 150. Kassela, who you may recall was the 2010 WSOP Player of the year, then woke up with a check-raise to 600. Both Jazayeri and the cutoff folded and Kassela took down the small pot.

Wade vs Palevic

Tristan Wade after his victory at the WSOPE last year
Tristan Wade after his victory at the WSOPE last year

This title will probably have some follow ups considering the fact that these to players are seated next to each other. Tristan Wade won the €3,000 No-Limit Hold'em shootout at the WSOPE last year. He came close to winning his second bracelet this summer when he finished third in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event at the WSOP.

Wade is no stranger to the game know as PLO, but the same thing goes for Rifat Palevic. The agressive Swede bubbled the final table of this event last year, finishing in seventh, and his best WSOP finish was also in this game. Back in 2009 he finished fifth in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha.

Palevic and Wade are bound to play some pots together, and we are hoping to catch some interesting ones!
