Phil Ivey has just taken his seat in the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe. He's seated in Seat 9 to the left of Leo Boxell. The table also includes Ben Roberts.
It seems like every time we see Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, someone is giving him chips. We came upon a hand with 23,000 already pulled into the middle with a board reading and Mizrachi had his remaining chips in front of him. From what we could piece together, Konstantinos Mamaliadis had bet the from the big blind, how much we're not sure, and Mizrachi pushed for 12,850 more. Mamaliadis thought for about 30 seconds and then made the call.
Showdown
Mamaliadis:
Mizrachi:
Mizrachi was in the lead with a turned two pair, which held when the blanked on the river. With that, Mizrachi doubled to 56,000 while Mamaliadis was knocked down to 2,000 or so.
Action folded to Govert Metaal in the hijack and he raised to 500, which Prosper Masquelier called from the big blind. The flop saw the latter lead out for 500 and say, "Friendly bet," to which Metaal raised to 1,200. Masquelier made the call and then both players checked the turn.
Masquelier checked for a second time on the river, and Metaal fired out 2,500. Masquelier clashed the and then sent his hand to the muck.
From early position, Rémy Biechel raised to 400. The cutoff seat made the call, then Kamel Tafer reraised to 800 from the button. Todd Terry called from the small blind, Biechel called, and the cutoff seat called.
The flop came down , and action checked around. The turn was the , and action checked to Tafer. He fired 1,100 with only Biechel making the call. The river completed the board with the , and Biechel led for 1,500. Tafer called.
Biechel showed the for a straight to the jack. Tafer held his hand for a few moments, staring back at it, but looking upset. He then mucked, and Biechel scooped in the pot.
After a player in Seat 9 had limped in early position, our defending champ, Elio Fox, raised to 825 from the button. Both blinds got out of the way, the limper called, and it was heads-up action to the flop. Seat 9 proceeded to check-call a bet of 700 and then do the same for 2,200 on the turn.
When the peeled off on the river, Seat 9 checked for a third time and Fox fired out 4,500. Seat 9 thought for a bit before tossing out three grey T5,000 chips for a raise to 15,000, and Fox called with . Seat 9 then slowly turned over for the same hand. Chop it up!
Despite chopping that pot, Fox is off to a good start and is already up to 55,000.
With 2,100 in the pot and a flop, 2012 Aussie Millions winner Oliver Speidel bet 1,200 from middle position only to have Michel Pomaret raise to 2,725 from the cutoff. Philipp Gruissem was on the button and thought for a few moments before putting in a three-bet to 6,000, which prompted Speidel to quickly fold his hand.
Pomaret then stacked his chips and spiked them in the middle for a four-bet shove to approximately 27,000. Gruissem snap-folded and someone at the table asked him, "What, you didn't believe him?"
Steve O'Dwyer opened for 600 from the hijack and received a call from Sandy Denis in the cutoff. 2005 World Series of Poker Ladies Event champion Jennifer Tilly then put in a three-bet to 2,900 from the small blind, and O'Dwyer opted for a four-bet to 6,900. Denis quickly got out of the way, and Tilly did the same after thinking for about a minute.
It wasn't much of a hand, but it provided us a good excuse to update you on both their chip counts.
Elie Payan checked the flop, and Leo Boxell fired a bet of 2,000. Phil Ivey was next to act, and he made the call. Joao Martins was behind Ivey and folded. Payan also folded.
The turn was the , pairing the board, but also completing a possible flush draw. Boxell stayed on the gas with a bet of 3,000. Ivey called.
The river was the to complete the board, and Boxell bet 5,000. Ivey leaned over to get a look at Boxell's stack, then leaned back to his normal position. After a few moments, he raised to 20,000, which was enough to put Boxell all in. Boxell took a minute, shook his head and folded the face up. Ivey didn't show.
Elie Payan was first to act on the flop. He checkedn, then Matt Keikoan checked. Phil Ivey was the third player in the hand, and he fired 1,700. Payan folded, but Keikoan called.
The came on the turn, and Keikoan checked. Ivey fired 4,000, Keikoan got the amount verified, then called.
On the river, the paired the board. Keikoan checked. Ivey tossed out 10,000, and Keikoan folded.
