The Majestic Barriere
The Majestic Barriere

The 2012 World Series of Poker Europe continues with the event you’ve all been waiting for—Event #7 €10,450 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event. Today, the first of two starting flights will take place at the Majestic Barrière in Cannes, France as players from around the world will battle for one of poker’s most coveted titles.

Last year this event drew a field of 593 players including Tony G (24th), Erik Seidel (21st), Andy Moseley (13th) and Arnaud Mattern (10th). The final table was a star-studded affair that included Patrik Antonius (9th), Jake Cody (7th), Shawn Buchanan (6th), Brian Roberts (4th) and Moritz Kranich (3rd); however, it was New Yorker Elio Fox who defeated Chris Moorman in heads-up play to capture the bracelet and €1.4 million first-place prize.

Action is set to kick off at 12:00 CET, which is less than a half hour from now. Join us then as we bring you all the action and eliminations from the first day of the 2012 WSOP Europe Main Event.

WSOP Europe Over the Years

Here's a look at the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event over the years. Number of entrants stayed roughly the same from 2007-2010 while the event was in London, but then the move to Cannes happened for 2011 and an increase of over 70% was received.

YearEntrantsChampion1st-Place Prize
2007362Annette Obrestad£1,000,000
2008362John Juanda£868,800
2009334Barry Shulman£801,603
2010346James Bord£830,401
2011593Elio Fox€1,400,000

All of the field sizes have been down this year, and that is also expected for the Main Event. Still, there will more than likely be 500 players in the field, which is nothing to sneeze at.

UEFA Champions League promotion from PartyPoker
UEFA Champions League promotion from PartyPoker

PartyPoker have launched a fantastic promotion that will see someone — hopefully you — walk away with two tickets to the Manchester United versus Braga UEFA Champions League match on October 23, 2012, plus expenses thrown in for good measure!

The lucky winner of this promotion will receive two tickets to the match, travel expenses and Legendary Treble Suite hospitality.

In order to have a chance at getting your hands on this fantastic prize, all you have to do is share a screenshot of a poker hand on the PokerNews Facebook Page. Really, it's that simple.

Play poker at a real-money table on PartyPoker during September 24 and October 7, 2012, and be prepared to take a screenshot of anything you think may be interesting. If you are involved in a hand that is a huge cooler, then take a screenshot of it. Have you just witnessed a horrible bad beat? Then share it with the world. The owner of the screenshot with the most likes will win the package.

All we ask is that the screen shot be at least 800x600 in resolution and that it has all of the core elements — username and hand number — recognizable, that the action the screenshot is portraying takes place between September 24 and October 7 and that the screenshot is genuine and has not been altered regarding its content. Only the player who played the hand in the screenshot is allowed to share the picture and therefore eligible for the prize.

PokerNews would like to wish you all the very best of luck and we cannot wait to see the images that you submit!

Bonomo Wins Without a Showdown

We happened upon the action with 5,100 in the pot and a board reading {4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. An elderly gentleman in middle position had bet 1,525 and was immediately met with a raise to 5,525 from Justin Bonomo. The original raiser gave it some thought, but ultimately tossed his hand to the muck.

Bonomo is off to a good start already adding 5,000 to his starting stack.
