Negreanu Calls Out What Beats Him

We caught up to find the board reading {5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Daniel Negreanu tapped the table and Brandon Adams fired 3,500. Negreanu called and the {5-Spades} paired the board on the river.

Negreanu checked once again and Adams fired 8,500.

"Eight-nine?" Negreanu said. "Eight-nine beats me."

Negreanu continued to talk through the hand to himself for a moment before finally calling. Just as Negreanu had said, Adams rolled over {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for the straight. Negreanu let out a hearty laugh and mucked his cards. By losing this hand he is currently at about 45,000.

There's Rousso

Vanessa Rousso just sat down at Table 1. She will be playing against, among others, Roberto Romanello, Timothy Adams and John Duthie. Right now there are 201 players registered for Day 1b with 186 remaining. Late registration will remain open all throughout the dinner break.

Petrov Takes One From Aguiar

Mikhail Petrov just raised to 650 and Jon Aguiar called from the small blind. The flop came down {3-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, and Aguiar check-called 850.

On the turn the {6-Clubs} hit and Aguiar check-called 1,500. The river brought out the {2-Spades} and both players checked.

"Queen high," Aguiar said as Petrov kept his cards face down. A few seconds later Aguiar showed {q-Hearts}{J-Spades} after which Petrov showed his {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

Aguiar wondered why Petrov didn't turn his cards over and said, "Which queen high beats a pair of tens?"

"I wanted to see your cards," Petrov replied as starting stacking chips.

QQuads

We found Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and an opponent looking at a board of {2-Spades}{J-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Grospellier checked and his opponent bet 2,000. Grospellier came over the top for 7,275 and his opponent went into the tank for about a minute before throwing away his hand.

"Show it," said ElkY's opponent.

Grospellier let out a laugh and flipped up {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for quad queens. Despite winning this pot, Grospellier is still under the starting stack.

Negreanu Gets Boujenah to Fold a Set

During one of the final hands before the break Ilan Boujenah played a big pot against Daniel Negreanu. Boujenah raised to 400 pre flop and got two callers, among which Negreanu from the big blind.

The flop brought out {K-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Boujenah bet 600 after which Negreanu check-raised to 1,800. Boujenah made it 4,000 and Negreanu called.

On the turn the {A-Hearts} hit and Negreanu followed through with a 5,600-chip bet. Boujenah called.

The river brought the {2-Spades} and Negreanu did not slow down. He fired out 12,500, putting a lot of pressure on his opponent. Boujenah tanked for a long time, but eventually he folded {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} face up. Negreanu mucked his cards and is off to a very good start here in Cannes.
