Treading on the Money Bubble

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Julian Adamson is among the shortest stacks on the money bubble, but Edgard Strupka, Paul Berende and Anatolii Zyrin are only a few big blinds further ahead. The big stacks belong to Corentin Schmauch and Gerrit Muller while Meir Avigal moved all in once to claim a bigger pot without showdown.

Short stack Michail Kavouras was all in for 49,500 and the fireworks started behind him as Gil Thierry and Giuseppe Tedeschi also ended up all in. But that was not the last of it just yet, as Corentin Schmauch had everyone covered and also got his stack into the middle.

"Sorry guys, I think we have the bubble here," one of the players at the table said to tournament staff, who rushed by to see the showdown.

Michail Kavouras: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}
Gil Thierry: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Giuseppe Tedeschi: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Corentin Schmauch: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Kavouras was rooting for an ace while filming the showdown with his smartphone. The Greek had his wish granted in most dramatic fashion as the board came {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{A-Diamonds} to secure his quadruple up. Meanwhile, Thierry and Tedeschi were eliminated by Schmauch and the field has been reduced to just 25 hopefuls. The money bubble will now be played in hand-for-hand mode.

Gil Thierry was all in and at risk for 64,500 with {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} against the {A-}{Q-} of Meir Avigal and the board ran out {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. Thierry was visibly relieved and admitted after the hand that he was not happy about being snap-called with his pair of nines.

Three Tables Remain

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

With the eliminations of Marc Anthony Joseph and Zoran Stojanovic, the field has been reduced to the last 27 hopefuls and they have redrawn to the last three tables. The money bubble for Day 1A is imminent, as just the top 24 spots get paid.

Ferrara Doubles Through Glinski

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

With plenty of chips in the middle already, Dariusz Glinski pushed on the river of a board {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and his sole remaining opponent Marino Ferrara called after some consideration for 45,000.

Glinski was forced to turn over {A-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a bluff gone wrong and Ferrara tabled the {10-Spades}{7-Spades} for two pair, tens and sevens.

Zukernik Doubles; Wendt Departs

The cards of Meir Avigal were already in the muck as he paid off Philipp Zukernik for 33,000. Zukernik had been all in with the {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and his pair ended up best on a board of {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

One table over, Martin Wendt was left empty-handed without anything to show for as he ran with a big pocket pair into an even bigger one. Wendt ended up all in for more than 120,000 preflop with pocket jacks against the {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} of Nicolaas Baars. The superior pair was in no threat on the {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} board and Baars jumped to nearly 100 big blinds as a result.

Schmauch Joins the Bigger Stacks

Corentin Schmauch

The {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades} of James Bullimore were all but rushed away as his kicker problem against the dominating ace of Corentin Schmauch found no help on a board of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}.

Only moments later, Pasquale Grimaldi departed from one table over to reduce the field further. Only 33 hopefuls remain with 24 spots paid, and they are led by Gerrit Muller and Meir Avigal.
